Could the Fujifilm X Series Become a Panoramic Format?
The Phoblographer - News
by Chris Gampat
16h ago
The future of the Fujifilm X series is bound to evolve into something for it to specialize in. We can see this in the history of what Micro Four Thirds did. At first, they tried to tackle everything. But eventually, they stayed in a pretty narrow lane. That's because of the physical and software-based limitations of the sensors. Soon enough, APS-C is going to join that route. But if anyone is bound to keep it alive, it will be Fujifilm. Radical honesty is something that true journalists champion; and perhaps that's why so many photographers who prioritize gear over making great images are hurt ..read more

The Classic Cool of Paul McCartney as a Photographer
The Phoblographer - News
by Chris Gampat

This title is one that I truly never thought I'd type: but Curator Catherine Futter and the Brooklyn Museum have done what many might deem impossible. They've taken the work of someone not considered a traditional photographer and given it the specular highlights it needs to shine. If Paul's photography were the sun, you wouldn't mind going blind staring at it. The images are a testament to the pillar of documentary photography that advocates for people skills, access, and being emotionally in tune with what's around you ..read more

It’s Time to Move Up to Full Frame
The Phoblographer - News
by Chris Gampat

I've spoken about it before in harsher words, saying that the end of APS-C and Micro Four Thirds is coming. And as I stated in that article. We saw it coming a while ago, too, and the same rings true. Real innovation isn't coming to your APS-C or Micro Four Thirds camera. They will become sensors that shift into phones and luxury-style compact cameras. I fully embrace the latter. But it's time to move up to full-frame cameras for more serious work to be a photographer over being a content creator. Professional photographers have known this for years. In the end, it's the photographer who makes ..read more

Magnum Photographer Thomas Dworzak Tells About How He Found Gold
The Phoblographer - News
by Chris Gampat

The idea of gold permeates through much of the visual world. But unless you're holding it in your hand, it can't really affect you at all. It doesn't really have a taste, scent, or sound. And in that way, gold is like a printed photograph. We put a ton of value on gold because of what it's associated with: wealth. However, we also tend to really adore the shimmer it delivers -- which is much different from that of silver. In this image for the current Magnum Square Print sale, photographer Thomas Dworzak tells us about how he found gold ..read more

The Pano Awards Showcases the Finest Landscape Photography
The Phoblographer - News
by Chris Gampat

Most images are showcased in square format, vertical, or a standard 3:2 landscape format. But if you're shooting a landscape, then you're not always getting the best format for the subject matter. And arguably, the panoramic format is best for landscape photography. But don't take my word for it. The Epson International Pano Awards are in effect for 2024 -- and that means that so many photographers have the opportunity to gain prominence from their beautiful photos. Several of the images are positively stunning and all embrace the panoramic format in a way that should be adopted more often ..read more

Photographer Stuart Franklin often gives us some of the coolest stories about his images. For the current Magnum Square Print sale, there's a theme around the idea of a Fable. And this year, we're seeing some positively incredible work that can't be easily made or duplicated otherwise. Indeed, real photographers are bringing out their best stuff for this sale. We've known Stuart to have a bit of an unconventional side when it comes to his images. But we didn't expect there to be a full multiple exposure. But the story behind this photograph is very impressive; and to us, it's his most intrigui ..read more
