My Mom was diagnosed 17 years ago and the disease progressed very slowly over the years… but it’s finally catching up to her. She can’t keep food down (which means she can’t keep her meds down)… and is down to about 100 lbs. she’s been hospitalized for her dyskinesia 3 times this month… and the most recent time, the hospital released her into home-hospice. Her mental faculties are also starting to fail. Gets confused very easily, etc. Even though it’s been explained to her several times, she doesn’t quite grasp that she’s in hospice. Hospice, honestly has been a god send. Having a team that k ..read more

Hey guys! My father (61 YO) was diagnosed with Early Parkinson's last year. He's currently taking Syndopa 100mg three times in a day. He's currently independent - Walks without a support, rides his bike, travels alone. He doesn't have tremors. He has balance issues, dyskinesia and sometimes slurry speach. I have been doing research on alternative treatment that can slow down, put brakes on the progression of the disease. And I came across this Stem cell therapy when I was listening to BeerBiceps' podcast with Dr. Alok Sharma, a famous neurologist in Mumbai,India. I am really sceptical about t ..read more

I am wondering about PWP experiences with dopamine agonist vs C/L in terms of long term. Currently I am on one 2 mg neupro patch per day and only 12.5/50 C/L three times per day. The patch is because I am quite susceptible to nausea. Only 5 months in and I am wondering pros and cons of increasing the patch power. The exhaustion and melancholy are really getting me down. submitted by /u/annal33 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My dad, 79 male, is a Vietnam veteran that is getting 90% disability for developing Parkinson's from agent orange exposure. The VA has him at 90%, they did bump him up above 100% for a short time, and then brought him back down to 90% . The back and fourth is is a headache. He has a hearing coming up. Any tips? I have no idea how to handle the VA or how to help argue to increase his disability, or supporting documentation? submitted by /u/bcraven1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all. I adore my grandmother. She is my absolute best friend. I lived with her and we got through her chemo together and she made it to remission. Right after that, I woke up in the middle of the night to our house burning down. We made it out together. Now she is beginning her journey with Parkinson’s. Mostly her feet and legs hurt so she’s on lyrica as of this week. A lot of other symptoms but i was wondering if there’s any aides or purchases that helped you or your loved one get some relief? I got her compression socks but other than that this is all new territory. I’m used to caring for ..read more

My mom (70) has trouble getting out of the sofa, especially during the afternoon or night, so she calls me (f29) or my dad to help her up. Do you have any suggestions of any home aids that will help her get up? Sofas are so low :( submitted by /u/gfcvghtdxctt [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I take care of my Dad (75) with Parkinson’s. No tremors, mostly effects mouth with aphasia and chewing, gate, general weakness. I also take care of my Mom (73) with Alzheimer’s and teenager 19 with autism and severe depression. Was getting ready to do a respite stay for my parents (assisted living with memory care next door). Found out today my dad has early stage bladder cancer. Doc said surgery in two weeks to scrape the inside of his bladder, it’s same day outpatient surgery with general anesthesia. He will have a catheter for a week but no chemo or anything like that. My dad is mostly cog ..read more
