My grandma’s mom had Parkinson’s and we are concerned for her. I’m not asking for a diagnosis, but I would like to know if anyone here has experienced Parkinson’s in this way. The last two years have been a steady decline- cognitively: poor memory, nearly constant anxiety/stress, general overwhelm, feelings of depression physically: “episodes” where she can’t regulate her temperature (usually gets very cold even with heated mattress pad and fire burning/heater blowing on her) and seizing up - usually starting in her legs and going through her whole body - numb/tingly feet and sometimes hands ..read more

Hi My Dad 67M was diagnosed with Parkinsons 7years ago. My parents are divorced and my siblings all live in other countries so its just me a student looking after my Dad in my free time. He still works for himself and is generally pretty well. We struggle to agree on things in terms of his health and sometimes I find it really upsetting/stressful as I often take time off to care for him which I dont mind doing. These are the three biggest issues for us He never takes his medication on time-I have tried everything blister packs, reminders, alarms-any advice on this? Sleep: we have tried pheneg ..read more

My mom has parkinsons and when she got it she started to smell different. I didnt think much of the smell until I went to the store and smelled the same smell. I thought my mom was there but instead it was an old man that just smelled the exact same. I googled what it smells like and articles about the woman who can smell it came up. She said it smelt musky and thats exactly how I would describe it. Its a sweet, dusty smell. Im a teenager from Finland btw submitted by /u/Professional_Spot715 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How can primary caregivers cope?

My mother was diagnosed with early onset PD more than a decade ago now. She was just in her early 40s at the time. Now, her condition is steadily deteriorating right in front of our eyes. Technically I am not my mother's primary caregiver. Since I am in uni, it's my father who cares for her; but every time I come home for vacations I'm reminded of how disturbing it is to watch your loved ones struggle to do basic things like putting clothes on. My mother has a lot of dyskinesia, especially her head is always moving and nodding and even in her sleep, her legs keep twitching and it just makes m ..read more

Hello New Parkinon's friends! I am sure a lot of you have seen my two posts about theme songs and Poor Job Decisions Part 1 and 2. Anyway, I started a new website called everydayparkinsons.com that focuses on blog posts like I post on here. However, I also want to focus on helping the newly diagnosed. There is a lot of information on Parkinson's the disease out there, but could not really find much about all of the feelings, the fear, etc that comes when you are first diagnosed and through that first year. So I want to do something for those going through it. It is a scary time and I know I w ..read more

Spending behavior

My father is having Parkinson’s for close to a decade. It appears he doesn’t seems to have a good handle on money and he empties his pension before end of the month and asking more money. Growing up, I learned a lot from him on how to save and handle money and now he is doing the opposite. Wondering whether anyone faced change in behavior when it comes to money handling on people who has Parkinson’s. I also live away from my father and not sure how can I control his spending behavior. submitted by /u/Prestigious_Egg9423 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do you deal with colds?

I was just on a family holiday and got a crazy cold. Never tested positive for Covid, but am having the hardest time getting phlegm out of my lungs. I have asthma and a history of holding on to colds, but this feels different. I cannot get my coughs deep enough to clear my lungs, and when I do cough it feels like I’m pushing it all down. My regular dr gave me abuterol virtually (I was silly and went on the trip without it), but wouldn’t do a steroid right away. Today (5 days later) she agreed to it. I’m wondering what you all do to arrange an understanding with your Drs that you have a seriou ..read more
