The draws are today released for the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior Nationals in Nottingham next month. It is a first age group Nationals for Tianer Yu, who last month won the Under-21 Women’s Singles and reached the Women’s Singles semi-finals at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships. Yu is top seed in the Junior Girls’ Singles, ahead of Sienna Jetha, and there will a new name on the trophy as Anaya Patel, who won the last two editions, is no longer eligible. Almost 350,000 people play table tennis regularly, according to the latest Active Lives survey out this week. The Sport England survey found that 349,600 people had taken part in the sport at least twice in the last 28 days when the survey was carried out, in the period November 2022 to November 2023. This number is holding steady compared with last year’s Active Lives report (November 2021 – November 2022). Our New Performance Home Our new performance home at the EISS is really coming to life, with athletes starting their transition to training in Sheffield. Ormesby will face Brighton TTC this weekend in a crunch SBL Premier Division tie. The winner will cement their place at the top of the mini league going into the final round of fixtures.  David McBeath is unavailable for the travelling side, a huge loss for Ormesby given his incredible form this season. The Yorkshire Table Tennis Association celebrated 100 years since its formation with a reception at the Hotel Met in Leeds on Tuesday 16th April. The president, Richard Scruton, welcomed more than 60 guests and the Table Tennis England president Jill Parker MBE proposed the toast to the Yorkshire Association. The Association chair Joshua Reynolds responded and announced the award of vice-presidencies to Janet Adams, Richard Crowther, Denis Neale, Sandra Rider, Linda Simpson, Granville Thornton, Margaret Welch and Sylvia Worth for their service to the county. Tudor Eftinca from St Marys, Hull and Grantham College was the outright winner of the Under-19 boys’ singles in the Ormesby Junior 1 Star Championships which took place at the Teesside club on Sunday April 21. Eftinca (pictured above with Ormesby Chairman Alan Ransome OBE) won the title dropping only one game to the player who finished in fourth, Billy Lee.  In second place was Joshua Jackman from Durham while Aaron Christie from Ormesby was third. Connor Green battled back from within a point of elimination in the last 64 to reach the quarter-finals of the WTT Youth Contender Spa in Belgium with two landmark victories. Green, currently ranked No 96 in the world junior rankings, defeated Slovakia’s Samuel Palusek (WR 48) 3-2 (11-7, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9) in the last 32 of the Under-19 Boys’ Singles. Simon Heaps delighted with three medals in Jordan

Simon Heaps broke more new ground by winning three medals at an international para tournament for the first time. Heaps took Men’s Singles silver, plus bronze in both the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles at the Jordan Para Open in Amman. Competing in the Class 4-5 category, Heaps won his two singles group matches 3-0 against Meiirbek Otepov of Kazakhstan and Ibrahim Sabra of Jordan. He then beat Trivendra Singh of India 3-1 (11-2, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6) in the semi-finals and Muntadher Al Sarraji of Iraq 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7) in the final. Week 31 saw division 2B’s Hutton Harriers and division 2C’s Chelmsford Panthers take the first two of four junior divisional titles on offer. Chelmsford Junior League division 2A The Hutton Hawks moved within touching distance of the division 2A title with a 4-1 home win over the Chelmsford Cougars. Charlie Ware was in dominating form as he won both of his matches 3-0 – dropping just 24 points over the six games.
