This November and all of the upcoming year, Blue Earth Compost is celebrating 10 years of service. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long! 10 years in operation really snuck up on us. It’s not that we weren’t aware of it coming. It just felt like it was coming too soon. Another way to put it is that it feels the same way many of us do around the holidays, as in “it’s the end of the year, already?”. It’s sincerely mind-boggling to think about it. We feel honored to be a company that is service-centered. Our duty is to our customers, our employees, and the communities that support us. We ..read more

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to unleash the furry frenzy! You might have seen him around town, or maybe you caught a glimpse of him on the local news, but let's set the record straight – the bear you've been seeing isn't just digging through your trash; our newest team member, Bear, is on a quest to save the environment, one food scrap at a time with us here at Blue Earth Compost. Our mission is to keep food scraps out of the trash and turn them into glorious, nutrient-rich compost. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it, right? Which is why we couldn't be more excited to welcome Bear ..read more

You may have heard recently that the owner of Patagonia, a leading outdoor apparel brand, decided to transfer his company, valued at about $3 billion, to a trust and a non-profit that will donate all proceeds to fight climate change. In an exclusive interview with the New York Times, owner Yvon Chouinard was quoted saying, “Hopefully this will influence a new form of capitalism that doesn’t end up with a few rich people and a bunch of poor people…[w]e are going to give away the maximum amount of money to people who are actively working on saving this planet.” Another story you probably haven ..read more

Blue Earth Compost! Ladles and Jelly Spoons! We Won! The Town of West Hartford informed us that we'll be company hired to run a 700 home pilot program starting in April of 2023. It’s still hard to wrap our heads around. We know we put it in a rock solid proposal (It was 85 pages!). We know that we have the reputation and the experience. But we also know that we wouldn’t have won without you. This isn’t only a Blue Earth Compost win. It’s not just a win for the “little guy”. This is a win for everyone that believes in us and our supporters from the very beginning all the way until now. Being a ..read more

"The Highest Standards of Social and Environmental Impact"
Blue Earth Compost

Blue Earth Compost was recently certified as a B-Corp, meaning that we are a "company that meets the highest standards of social and environmental impact." This has been a goal of ours for many years and it feels so incredible to have achieved this milestone. I like to think of the B Corp certification for businesses as similar to what the Fair Trade certification is for products and producers. Certification is a stringent process carried out by professionals from the B Lab agency in which they examine all of the impacts of a company with a fine tooth comb. These elements include governance ..read more

The Three "C"s!
Blue Earth Compost

Hey Loyal Composters, One of my favorite jokes to tell kids goes like this: *In a pirate's deep, gravely, tone*: "What's a pirate's favorite letter?" The kid will then invariably respond (hopefully with the same tone): "Aaaarrrrrr!" To which I'll respond: "No! It's the C!" And then we'll both laugh heartily, because we are now the bestest of pirate pals. The reason I bring this up is because you should consider having "C" be your favorite letter as well! That's because "C", or rather the Three "C's", are your key to a clean and pest-free compost container during the warmer months. The Three "C ..read more

Disney, Amazon, Yankee Candle, Blue Earth Compost....? What do all these businesses have in common? The picture above might have been a give away, but all of these businesses started in a garage. We're not quite as successful as the others on this list, but hey, we're no slouches either. We moved out of the garage faster than Amazon did. :) And as of March 1st, we'll be moving once more to a new home at 18 Midland Street in Hartford. It's a mere stone's throw from our present digs and just off Main Street. We're really looking forward to our new headquarters. The building is a former rail-to ..read more

Hey Composters! Did you know that over one BILLION pounds of pumpkins are thrown away every single year?!? That's a truly terrifying statistic for composters like us, because we know the harm that does to our environment. We also know how much good it would do to eat or compost those pumpkins. For this reason, we're hosting an event that we're calling Pumpkins on Pratt in downtown Hartford on October, 28th. Pumpkins on Pratt will feature food trucks, a live DJ, and three pumpkin-related contests! Carve a jack-o-lantern and bring it to the event on October 28th. First prize is $250 in cash! Y ..read more
