“I know rules are good for me. I can show respect. I look at others when they talk to me. I take good care of property.” – Regina Burch, Following the Rules (Creative Teaching Press) One of the most important traits we can teach children at a young age is respect. We’ve all heard the saying: Treat others the way you want to be treated. When teaching kids about respect, it’s important to not only talk about how we treat pe ..read more

It’s almost time for a much needed and very well deserved winter break. I really hope self-care will make your “to-do” list in the midst of everything you may have going on during your time away from school. Burnout is real, and taking care of yourself is so vital for your well-being. I understand that people view the concept of self-care differently. Some look at it as being selfish or even lazy. Self-care isn’t a luxury b ..read more

The few weeks before winter break are a great time to focus on good attendance. In the post How Do You Encourage Good Attendance? The simple activities would start when there are 12 days left of school. So, for example, if the last day is December 20, the first of the 12 days would be December 5. Each day, you can have an announcement that is read to the entire school ..read more

Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31, and this year’s theme is “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free.” Because elementary school is the foundation for middle and high school, celebrating Red Ribbon Week is a proactive approach to instilling healthy choices and encouraging kids to be responsible and informed as they grow older and enter those upper grades of their education. Red Ribbon Week can help raise awareness of the negative effects of drugs early on and will hopefully help younger students learn the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Introducing the negative effects of drug use e ..read more

Bulletin Boards are a great way to spruce up your office or share important information with your students and staff throughout the school. I’ve used them to highlight character trait winners, to spotlight colleges and career clusters, and to simply provide a positive message for students visiting my office. I asked my email subscribers and Facebook followers to share their favorite bulletin boards, and today I want to share those with you. This bulletin board was one of my favorites for a long time. It was behind me as I taught lessons during those remote learning days that started in 2020. I ..read more
