Having performed at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre each Easter, Halloween and Christmas for several years, Ireland’s travelling marionette theatre is delighted to announce a series of seven dates when we will perform at the Visitor Centre in 2020, hosted by the Office of Public Works (OPW). To mark Armistice Day, here is an image of front line troops of “the Great War” enjoying the French version of Punch & Judy with Guignol as Punch, not only entertaining troops, but satirically, as a stand-in for political leaders of the time. The image is from the archives of the Museum of Puppetry in Lyon (Musée Gadagne  / Musée des arts de la marionette). Ireland’s travelling marionette theatre, The Moon & Sixpence Puppet Theatre, present “Jacqueline & the Beanstalk” at the Phoenix Park visitors Centre. Ireland’s travelling marionette theatre, The Moon & Sixpence Puppet Theatre, had a busy summer with performances at festivals, events and libraries across the country. Included in our journey were performances at the Irish Open Golf Championships, the Ennis Street Festival, the Harvest Festival in Waterford, the Promenade Festival in Tramore, and Terryglas Arts Festival. We also provided a series of library performances in Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Dunshauglin, Kells, Oldcastle, Navan and Trim. On this month… September 1878 saw a visit to Dublin by Bullock’s Royal Marionettes, who performed, at 3pm and 8pm daily, in the Rotunda’s Concert Rooms (now the Ambassador Cinema) in Dublin. We’re off to the Promenade Festival in Tramore this weekend, where we will perform at 2:30pm on Sunday. The festival takes place along the prom of one of Ireland’s best known seaside towns.
