Hello all,
I’m wondering if anybody has seen any data that links Shime-waza on 60+ years old to an increased likelihood of having a heart attack. From what I can tell, no data was provided when the ban was announced by the IJF. Myself and my students are keen on seeing any studies that support the thinking behind the ban.
Thanks!

hi, when i see people do ippon seoi nage/throws during uchikomo, some of them will swing back their leg upwards before getting it into position. is this just to gain speed?
I can’t find the name of this, but im interested in finding youtube videos or just general advice on how much to swing and how your body should be when doing this.

Afternoon, I’m going for my black belt next month and if I become a 1st Dan I want to get a tattoo to commemorate it. Anyone got any ideas? A lot of black belt tattoos on the internet are BJJ ones

After years od being sedentary I took interest in sports and right now I'm physically active. Judo seems to me like a really fun activity. I know it's not as risky as boxing/MMA but I'm still a little reluctant. The thing is - I'm a professional mathematician and a computer programmer, I enjoy reading and generally things that require higher cognition. I suffer from GAD with focus on hypochondria and been kind of obsessed with brain injuries since the day I had a mild concussion (an idiot assaulted me, recovered in like 4 hours, no symptoms since then).
My problem is - I only live once and I ..read more

I feel like a lot of the kouchi gari videos with tori advancing forward make a big deal about shifting the weight onto the right foot (in a RvR situation), but when they actually throw there is clearly an equal distribution of weight or even more weight on the left foot. Uke takes a very compliant fall, but the hands are inactive and the left foot is firmly on the ground with no indication of a weight shift. I found ones that aren't like this, but I feel like I'm going crazy watching these dan grades phone in the demonstrations.
Just venting...

Most of the judo ashiwaza techniques I know of involve sweeping with the lead leg. Are there any techniques that involve bringing the rear leg up to be the sweeping leg?

Hey all, started up my judo journey again after a few years (stopped because of covid and injuries) and had a great time. A lot of the stuff came rushing back and even though I had a white belt on I was tossing with the blues and browns in the class and felt good. Unfortunately I learned at the class that they’re not a competition judojo- they used to be affiliated with the state judo federation and a USA Judo federation (they switched between the big two), but now they’re not affiliated with either. The members aren’t USA Judo certified and they don’t really do competitions- the last one the ..read more

I'm testing for Brown Belt next month. We do the 3 levels of Brown and as 42 year old hobbiest that can only go once a week, this will either be the belt I have for the next 4-5 years or possibly the last judo belt I receive. So, I'm looking for recommendations on higher quality belts.
