Over the last ten months we have had the exceptional pleasure to work with the new owners and developers of the Blenheim Centre in the heart of Penge High Street, namely Clarion Housing – who we have worked with previously on a cluster of 20 spots within St Hugh’s Estate, Anerley since 2019 – and Hadley Property Group who are running the development of this location with a mind to utilize underused spaces on the top 3 floors of the multi-story car park to create the Penge Rooftop Gallery, that has already hosted 369 individual artworks, created by local street artists and graffiti writers that ..read more

This evening we are taking a look at year of Street Art in Penge and Anerley, something we have to say which has been a real pleasure to look back on. Since the blog’s inception eight years ago now we have began delving into various projects the most rewarding of which has been the organization of Street Art in our hometown of Penge through our SprayExhibition20 Community Street Art Project, which has seen some 874 artworks placed up around Penge and Anerley over the last seven years.

For our second of three posts looking back at what’s been happening on London’s Street Art and Graffiti scene we are taking a look back at what pieces we have seen around London through 2022. We have spent much of our time working on our SprayExhibition20 project around Penge and Anerley which has kept us busy much of this last year. However we have still managed to snap a number of brilliant pieces from all around East and South London, and a little bit of North London also.
It is always interesting at this time of year to look back at the overall London scene and see which areas ha ..read more

First up in our look back at 2022 we thought we would take a look back at what we have proactively organised and been up to about London this last year. Though first the absolute highlight of the year in terms of street art and graffiti we didn’t organise was our trip to Belfast where we invited to document the Hit The North Festival. Without contest it was a solid event with such a high standard in artists, this combined with the atmosphere made for an incredible weekend. Massive thanks to Seedhead Arts and Emic for having us over to your first class event and for being so hospitable also.

London recently received a visit from Israeil street artist Benzi Brofman who hit up several pieces smack in the centre of Brick Lane. Painting predominantly grey-scale portraits of famous figures as well as one bird. The portraits of Biggie and Tupac presents an impressive photo-realism work, whilst the paintings of Mr Bean and the Christmas themed work of the Beatles have a far more fun and caricature dynamic about them. Interesting works and hopefully we will see this artist return to paint in London before too long.

Over the summer environmentally focused street artist Jane Mutiny painted the iconic and former Aquarium within ZSL London Zoo, which closed in 2019 after operating for 100 years. The zoo declared that the space was no longer suited to provide the desired quality of environment for their animals. However the space will be repurposed as a new exhibit in the future and for now it has been redecorated in style.
Painting entirely with brushes and acrylics, Jane Mutiny considers the impact of her actions and her art on the environment and for this reason doesn’t use spray paint. Through her art she ..read more

Earlier this year London saw street artist and graffiti writer Nerone leave to head home to France this year, and we wish him all the best. However it is a shame to not see his art as frequently as we would like to about the city, he has still been back at least once this year and while he did he hit up a beautiful larges-scale mural in East London. We are also sharing his last letter work before he left London below. It’s truly impressive to see the range of styles and subjects in this artists repertoire, whilst always maintaining the quintessential character of his output, there’s a lot this ..read more

In the summer we received a visit from Canadian based artist Float, who left London around six years ago, so it was an absolute pleasure to see her after so long and all the more so that she painted a lovely abstract work in the mini-gallery that is Thornsett Place. We also got a real flash back to wandering around the East End seven or eight years ago when if you kept your eyes peeled you may notice a tiny stencil of a figure hanging from a ledge, or a skater flying along a pipe, it was a feel good nostalgic moment to have Float leave so many miniature additions to the town. So keep your eyes ..read more

A couple of weeks back saw the final paint jam of the year by WOM Collective, a group of female street artists, down Leake Street with the aptly named and themed WOM Winter Jam considering how cold it was that Saturday. It is always a pleasure to see the result of WOM jam, and first thing the following morning we got very lucky on our first trip to Leake Street for many months and saw the result of the paint jam which we are sharing below.
Additionally as we are so behind on blogging this year we never got around to posting on the WOM Circus Jam from January and also in Leake Street ..read more

Next up we are taking a look back at a series of five great works placed up through 2022 by Spanish born, but London based, street artist Micho Gato across East and South-East London. Micho Gato has over the year continued to leave a series of illustrative works featuring her subject of choice, cats. Presented in a cute illsutrative style, her pieces are so fun upon viewing and very much bring a smile to our face when confronted with these sweet characters when passing through Brick Lane.
