Soul Deli Coffee is contemporary Korean cafe (by the people who brought us Soul Dining) in Surry Hills at the frontage of the Adge Hotel on Riley St. With booths with pink-tiled tabletops, dim lighting and plenty of space, you’ll find a Korean menu with great options for breakfast and lunch. The hotel also has some pretty cool wall murals. The cafe has some well made coffee, specialty tea and sodas. The barista was excellent and also excelled at latte art. Food wise, you can order a range of Korean inspired choices, such as KFC rolls, K-street toast, or a Kimchi cheese toast. But bacon and e ..read more

Algorithm, Marrickville

Algorithm is a coffee shop I’d told many people about, yet never got to experience it yet! Finally got that chance recently for brunch. The cafe is on a prime corner in Marrickville, and whilst it’s a small spot, it can fit a decent amount of people, huddled around small tables on stools. The aesthetic is bright and white, minimalist and clean. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, and the cafe also has plenty of guests seated outdoors with their four legged friends. We peruse the menu and are enticed by the truffle folded eggs but it was later in the day, so we opt for a chicken Foccacia; w ..read more

Bird & Ewe, founded by Andrea and Tim, have certainly evolved, having started as a market stall at the Carriageworks Farmers Market in Redfern, as well as having a permanent store in Surry Hills. Now, also serving at The Rocks George Street Food Gallery, there’s many ways to get your hands on some of these! They serve fresh flatbreads with a great menu of toppings, that can also be made into salads if you prefer. Using ingredients sourced from local farmers and producers, you are getting a real farm to table style meal and you can certainly tell by the freshness of ingredients and delicio ..read more

Luc-San, aptly named, for Luc Mangan has open a Japanese / French style izakya in Potts Point. It’s unlikely you’d find it if you weren’t looking for it, for it is down a side lane up behind the old coke sign. The expansive 90 seat restaurant has a huge bar, bar height seating, banquette seating and plenty of tables. The aesthetic sees red roofs, grey walls and a huge mural of a lady with bright red lips. Scattered with some Japanese postcards, and dim lighting, the venue seems intimate despite the size and it also judging in the crowd, is suited to an older demographic like ourselves. We attended the Riviera Rooftop event; dinner and drinks held at the most perfect venue, Martinez Restaurant. Located within the Sydney’s Quay Quarter in Circular Quay, it is a great restaurant precinct within the CBD. Quay Quarter and Good Food events teamed up for this one off collaboration at Sydney’s hatted French restaurant Martinez along with Melbourne’s iconic hatted French restaurant, French Saloon. This menu saw flavours of the Riviera as well as dessert and pastry provided by Sydney’s Humble Bakery – the cult pastry shop from the Porteno, WyNo X Bodega and Bastardo crew. Martinez i ..read more

Self raised bread shoppe is a bakery selling New York style stacked sandwiches, egg and cheese milk buns in the morning and Foccacia as well as some pastries like almond croissants, and cakes such as the moist and decadent chocolate cake. We had the Hoagie, a ciabatta loaf filled with layers of mortadella, salami, smoked beef, salad, cheddar and provolone. This fully stacked sandwich is seasoned with a delicious sauce and you can also add chili. One of the best sandwiches going around – so good since they’re made fresh to order on freshly baked bread. Next time we want the Schnitzel (herb and ..read more

We made a visit to Kuki n Darling Harbour. Kuki is a little hole in the wall style spot selling up soft serve ice creams and cookies as well as combos in their sundaes. Brought to us by the Ice-Creamery Duo Duo, they’re now selling up some delicious warm, gooey and delicious cookies – think brown butter choc chip, chocolate, macadamia, taro-mochi cookie to name a few. They come out so fresh, like just out of the oven warm and gooey chocolate melting. So so good! A little on the pricy side but so is everything these days! You must also get a soft serve ice cream while you’re there! Kuki soft ..read more

While in Melbourne, it was a must to visit Lune Croissanterie. With stores in Fitzroy, Armadale and the CBD (as well as in Brisbane), solely selling variations of croissants, it’s a favourite for pastry lovers. You often read about the lines and lines of customers waiting on a daily basis. So, I ordered ahead, and then went to the Fitzroy store. There were no lines at all! The Fitzroy store also has an eat in section, open glass window and all croissants lined up for you to see what to order ..read more
