Divers: Weng, Susan, Youri, Ben, Chris, Simon, Seb, Nath & Josh The weather forecast was good, getting better & we were all looking forward to getting back into water after a couple of weeks of no diving. Apart from the fact that viz on the bottom wasn’t all that good, all other conditions were great. We were diving off Dive Victoria’s recently refitted Hermes. Certainly the egress out of the water, back onto the boat is far better than any of their other boats. Getting into the water takes some planning, but, it is nice to be able to back in to the boat with minimal effort. The jury i ..read more

Coogee & J4 Sub – Sunday 10th March 2024

Divers: Matt, Ben, Bas, Pete, James, Seb, Nath & Mark The conditions today were perfect for a graveyard dive with the strong northerlies, and with the lack rain lately the viz was really good. Its been a while since we last dived the Coogee, which I think is one of the better shallower wrecks, it has plenty of structure to swim around, the main features being the bow, boilers, hatches & of the course the iconic stern – a must, for the photographer. The J4 Sub was a great dive, there was a small amount of surge running through the sub, but still very manageable. Of course, our attention ..read more

Divers: Matt, Mitch, Diego, Aiden, Andrew, Angus, Jarrod, Jackson, Nolan, Maciek, Shannon, Mark N, Liam, James, Fiona & Mark Fortunately for us the temperature didn’t get to the predicted 38 degrees, in fact it was quite pleasant out on the water. Our first dive was at Popes eye on the flood tide, so we were restricted in where we could swim, but there were plenty of seals to swim with and the fish life was amazing. The Grotto is always an interesting dive with it many and varied bommies, swim throughs & overhangs the highlight of the dive might have been the Port Jackson sharks, but t ..read more

Divers Alex, Mitch, Sean, Mark, David and James. For our last Summer dive we were taken by Mick, (Dive Vic’s skipper) to a his secret scallop beds located somewhere in Port Philip Bay. The dive was not without its challenges, but it’s the challenges that keep divers alert and prepared, making us all better divers.  On the bottom the scallops fluttered around like butterflies.  All we had to do was reach out and collect them.  Most importantly we all had a great time, we all got back on the boat safely, and we all get to look forward to diving another day. For those that did coll ..read more

Divers: Emma, Aiden, Andrew, Angus, Jackson, Nolan, Maciek, Shannon, Liam, James, Fiona & Mark Surprisingly the crowds weren’t about as we arrived at Rye Pier this morning, the last few months have been chaotic in the carpark with all the divers about, although, by the time left at about 2.00pm – there were divers everywhere. As we entered the water, there was a little bit surface slope but nothing our team couldn’t deal with and once under the water conditions were fantastic, 10m viz & 20 degree temperature. We had Smooth Back rays, Sea Horses, Octopus & of course all the usual su ..read more

Mornington Pier – Thursday 29th February 2024

Divers: Thomas & Mark With the crazy forecast we’ve been getting lately, Thomas & I thought we’d take a punt & go for a dive at Mornington. Although conditions were almost perfect when we arrived, the mussel boat was tied up, cleaning down their latest catch, pumping out a brownish sludge that was darker than coffee. The one good thing about the mussel boat doing their cleaning was that the they also pumped the smaller mussels out into the water spreading them around the pier & thats good for the environment. Whats not good for the environment is the amount of Northern Pacific ..read more

Divers: Gary, Leo, Chris, Nath, James, Youri, Ben, Mitch, Matt, Pete, Josh & Mark Surface support: Denise & Vikki Norfolk Island has always held a fascination for a lot of people, me included, with its rich history of earlier colonisation and its reputation as being the most penal of all of the convict settlements, and also from its relationship with the descendants of mutineers from HMS Bounty. When the opportunity came up for us participate in a GIRT Scientific Divers course here on Norfolk Island, we all jumped at the chance. The two & a half day course has given us all a greate ..read more

Mornington Pier – Sunday 11th February 2024

Divers: Steve, Gary, Leo, Chris, Seb, Nath, James  & Mark Another great day for diving, Mornington is well protected from strong south/westerlies, so although it was choppy on the outside of the harbour, inside was perfect for diving. The one bad thing that I noticed, was the amount of Northern Pacific sea stars under the pier, there were hundreds of tiny juveniles, however, there were also a lot of the indigenous 11 Arm Sea Stars as well, and also a lot of fish under the pier as well, so thats a good sign for the eco environment of Mornington Pier & also fishermen.     ..read more

Divers: Maggie, Tyler, Jacob, Fiona & Mark The weather forecast has been looking good all week & clearly I’m not the only one watching it! I arrived at the pier at my usual time of about 8.00am & normally I am the only there, maybe one or teams of keen photographers who get earlier to get the good conditions, however, when I arrived this morning, there must have been 40-50 divers in the carpark. There seemed to be more divers than sand. I hope they all enjoyed the dives as much as we did, the conditions were perfect, oily flat water, 10m viz & 19 degree water. We had a Smooth B ..read more

Blairgowrie Pier – Sunday 4th February 2024

Divers: Sean, Tyler and James We had an awesome dive on Sunday at Blairgowrie Pier. Conditions were perfect which meant the site was packed with recreational divers. This made finding a parking spot difficult, but well worth the effort. Under the water was fantastic.  We swam at a leisurely pace and were under the water for well over an hour. Water temperature was 22 degrees. An amazing quantity and diversity of wildlife was under their pier. There were so many Smooth Back bull rays under and around the pier that they were literally bumping into each other.  We spotted ..read more
