Digital scale recommendations?

(Alternatively, how do you measure your tea for brewing?) I'm just getting into quality tea brewing and want to be somewhat precise - I bought an inexpensive digital scale but I'm really struggling with it. I'm getting measurements everywhere from 2g to 13g from the same bowl of leaves! Obviously not accurate and I have no clue how much tea I actually have. So either my technique is wrong, or my scale is horrible, one or the other. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable scale? submitted by /u/Deivi_tTerra [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I find that using water at 85 °C /185 °F to brew Tieguanyin results in a more delicious taste, with less astringency and a longer-lasting tea aroma. submitted by /u/orientaleaf [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Turkish tea and my story

I never drank tea, only sometimes in the morning or when I was sick. Even then, I drank filter tea with a lots of sugar and lemon juice. I was in Turkey a week ago, where the Turks offered me tea in every store where I shopped. At first I was afraid because I never drank tea without sugar and lemon, but I fell in love… I drunk a lot of tea in Turkey. I never bring home souvenirs, but I brought home 1 kilo Turkish tea in my bag :) Since then, I drink tea every day. In fact, I have already ordered Chinese black, Japanese green, Sri Lankan, Russian leaf and Quality earl grey tea. I can’t wa ..read more

I’ve been drinking these canned Yerba mates for a bit now and they’re really good. But I want to try some Yerba mate that you brew yourself. Does anyone have any recommendations for a brand to try? submitted by /u/Pinpo_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Helping finding a teapot

Hello, just broke a rather cute glass teapot given to me as a gift. Its pretty simple but the handle is pretty. I think the glass is too thin to attempt repair so I was hoping to get another that's similar. I've found ones with similar handles but have cylindrical bodies, but those ones don't seem as nice. Some details on the markings the bottom says cooking glass, in the middle is says lamyuktan. the tea stained label there says GB 4806. 5-2016 which seems to be a glass standard of china and the barcode number is 6947820925745 which doesn't come up with anything online. the handle is p ..read more

Tea Hoard (collection) atm, possibly to get bigger (had to fix post)

I've built up this tea collection over the last 3-4 years. My favorite ones that started it all were the Secret Garden Orange Spice from TjMaxx and Yorkshire Gold/ Red. After that this hobby just took off. I got that wood crate from the flea market two weeks ago for $6 (which I feel technically wasn't supposed to be an item to sell). The Yorkshire biscuit tea actually tastes like Belvita breakfast cookies, which I got from Amazon. It's soo good when you add cream and cinnamon/ and some brown sugar to that one. I even have a tea journal I got for Christmas last year that I started using la ..read more

What are you drinking today? What questions have been on your mind? Any stories to share? And don't worry, no one will make fun of you for what you drink or the questions you ask. You can also talk about anything else on your mind, from your specific routine while making tea, or how you've been on an oolong kick lately. Feel free to link to pictures in here, as well. You can even talk about non-tea related topics; maybe you want advice on a guy/gal, or just to talk about life in general. submitted by /u/AutoModerator [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is there a problem with 80 degrees magazine?

Hello r/tea! I've been lurking in the community for a few months now, and one of the more agreed upon recommendations for learning about tea is the aforementioned 80 Degrees magazine. Encouraged by the good reviews, I bought a couple issues last week and asked some questions via the inbox about past numbers and the subscription option not working for. A week later I have no answer, my shipping has not left the warehouse and there seems to be no one operating the website. Does anybody know if they're not in business anymore? submitted by /u/Du0decim [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Where can I learn more about tea?

I've been into tea for quite a while, and I'm starting to feel like it's impossible to learn more about it. Not because there's nothing more to learn, but because there is no one teaching it in English. I've watched every video I could find on YouTube. I keep watching Mei Leaf and Farmer Leaf videos. I've read every article I can find on websites that sell tea (Wuyi Origin, for example), and I'm at a point where I can hardly find any more sources of knowledge. Does anyone know how I could further educate myself? submitted by /u/urfavojisoostan [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
