Tea Area High School’s softball team is poised for an exciting 2024 season under the leadership of Head Coach Emmie Uitts, who enters her second year at the helm. With the debut of sanctioned high school softball in South Dakota last year, Coach Uitts and her team are ready to build upon their inaugural season in which they reached the State Championship title game, earning runner-up honors. With several athletes returning this year, the Titans look to once again make an impact on the diamond.

The Tea City Council met March 18 and approved the summer slurry seal project.
The project will not start until after Teapot Days and would involve a slurry seal on Gateway Boulevard from 468th Avenue to Heritage Parkway, on Cole Avenue from West High Pointe Street to Gateway Boulevard, on West High Pointe Street from 468th Avenue to North Main Avenue, on Gateway Lane from Heritage Parkway to Gateway Boulevard and on James Avenue from East 1st Street to East 7th Street. The Tea Area High School Choir Department has had a busy Third Quarter. On January 19-20 members competed at the SD-ACDA Midwinter Conference and Junior Honor Choir in Sioux Falls.

Seventy Tea youth wrestlers participated in the Region 5 AAU wrestling tournament in Hartford on Saturday, March 9th. The Titans had fifty-one wrestlers place in the top six at the region tournament. Thirty-two of those wrestlers punched their ticket to the SDWCA State Youth Wrestling Tournament to be held in Rapid City on March 15-17th.
The top three wrestlers from each weight class in all age divisions advance to the State tournament except the Bantam division where the top four advance. There were 618 wrestlers competing at the Region tournament from twenty-four differen ..read more

The National Association for Music Education celebrates March as Music in our Schools Month.
The Tea Area Middle School bands and choirs will be presenting a concert on Tuesday, March 19 at Tea Area High School at 6:30 p.m. as part of the month long celebration.
This concert will feature selections from the 6th grade band and choir, 7th grade band and choir, and 8th grade band and choir. The concert will be directed by Ellie Whitehead and Mary Beth Sutton.

The Tea City Council met March 4 where they met the new police dog, Suni, for the first time.
She started canine camp March 4 and will be in camp for six weeks before hitting the streets of Tea.
Police chief Jessica Quigley provided the annual report for the police department. The report is available on the city website. Some items to note included a 42 percent increase in calls for service, a 12 percent increase in motor vehicle crashes, no fatalities, injury accidents remained the same at 16, substance abuse had a more than 100 percent increase and early data for 2024 shows cocaine is trendi ..read more

The Lady Titans made history in their final season as a Class A program, reaching the State A Tournament for the first time. The Tea Area High School girls’ basketball team made an impressive run, defeating undefeated Flandreau in the opening round and taking out Sioux Falls Christian in the semifinals to reach the State Championship game against DakXII rival, Vermillion.

On Friday, March 1 the Tea Area High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Dakota Valley to take on the Panthers in the second round of Region 4A playoffs.
Tea Area went toe to toe with one of the top teams in the state, leading by six in the fourth quarter. However, Dakota Valley didn’t go down without a fight and outscored Tea Area 27-10 in the fourth to get the 72-61 victory, ending the Titans’ season.

The Tea Youth Wrestling Club participated in the District AAU Wrestling Tournament on March 4th at Tea High School.
Tea hosted 402 youth wrestlers from Tea, Brandon Valley, West Central, Lennox, Parker, and five Sioux Falls Schools.
Tea placed 68 wrestlers in the top 8, qualifying each wrestler to participate in the Region 5 Tournament to be held in Hartford on March 9. Placings included: 27 first place, 12 second place, 5 third place, 9 fourth place, 5 fifth place, 3 sixth place, 4 seventh place, and 3 eighth place.
