Russian Olympic medalist Vladimir Morozov announced his retirement from professional swimming at age 31 in a recent interview with Match TV.
The former world record holder said “really wanted to swim at least to Paris,” but “factors that I could not control intervened.”
Morozov hasn’t competed since the 2021 Short Course Championships, where he placed 17th in the 50 freestyle (21.54) while also helping Russia set a meet record in the 200 medley relay. West Virginia’s Vic Riggs resigned from his head coaching position after being with the program for the last 17 years.
According the public records, Riggs made $134,611.71 in 2023 and has hovered in the $130-140K range since 2018. The West Virginia men and women compete in the Big 12 Conference, which will be without Texas for the first time this upcoming season as Texas is moving to the SEC.
Let’s wildly speculate about who might take over this job.

Day 3 of the 2024 Romanian Nationals unfolded in Otopeni with 19-year-old David Popovici taking on his 3rd freestyle event of the competition.
After already topping the 50m free (22.27) and 200m free (1:45.10) podiums, Popovici tried the 400m free on for size and found the same gold medal-worthy success.
The teen stopped the clock in a result of 3:47.54 to handily defeat the field as the sole swimmer to dip under the 3:50 barrier.

The Aquatics Integrity Unit of World Aquatics has issued a 20-year ban to Marcos Jara, the former president of the Chilean Federation of Aquatics Sport.
World Aquatics delivered the sanction after Jara was found to have violated the FINA Code of Conduct on two counts and the FINA Code of Ethics on one count.
