"I disagree..." she was known for using those words at the start of most of her sentences. Her son Larry called her a "force of nature" and he goes on to say that after an argument, she would say, "Larry, I would agree with you, but then we’d both be wrong'” The creative force of nature behind the Albert Nipon label was actually Albert's wife, Pearl.  Used With Permission from the Jewish Exponent Born in Philadelphia, Pearl got her start in the business when she opened a women’s dress shop with her sister, Dorothy when she was only 19 years old. She married Albert Ni ..read more

Every closet has a story to tell, and Katie and I love the stories behind all of our pieces. It's bittersweet when we find exceptional wardrobes that we know were carefully chosen by interesting women who are no longer with us. We can even sometimes feel the very energy of the women who filled those closets and we always want to know more about them. The same is true of designers.  We get attached to them, study their lives, and even start to believe we somehow know those incredibly talented men and women who created the vast collection we have acquired.  That's an illusion, of course, b ..read more

"But when you're gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story?" Lin-Manuel Miranda - Hamilton   We recently acquired this vintage dress from a Northwest estate that had some exceptional pieces of turn of the century and early 1900's - 1920's clothing and accessories.  When we saw the label, we knew we had found a rare treasure. The details were so fine and we had never seen this quality of work in what would have been considered a "day dress", especially from that era.  It was obviously a dress deserving of the Harry Collins label. But, who was Harry Collins? La ..read more

Marc Jacobs 2018 Many recent runway shows have provoked outrage and dismay from a lot of fashion critics. The style savvy writers announced, in shock and dismay, (as if someone had died), that yes, ladies and gentlemen, the 80's are back.  Unlike these disappointed fashion writers, Katie and I have been anticipating this moment for a long time!  Far from mourning, we are breaking out the champagne, because we really love a LOT about the 1980s! So, over the next month, we'd like to show you the things we love about the decade everyone thinks they hate!  Here are our first 7 reasons for toasti ..read more

Dressing Vintage now has a studio! Our very special space is located in a beautiful historical building built in the 1930's in Portland, Oregon. We celebrated our grand opening this weekend with a private event that honored the genius of Yves Saint Laurent.  It was a very special evening that allowed us to share our love of YSL and to show some of our collection to special clients, friends and family. We thought this wall was the perfect place for a quote from Yves Saint Laurent's favorite author, Marcel Proust. The blouse below is one of a kind with a hand drawn image of Yves by Katie Acheso ..read more
