How long are egg whites good for (outside of the shell)

The other night I was making a dessert that called for egg yolks. I saved the whites in a Tupperware and tossed them in the fridge. How long are they safe for? Google is telling me 4 days but a fair number of folks are saying that they are no good almost instantly. Is there any consensus among the group? submitted by /u/Xbadcrcx [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What’s missing?

Putting together a cocktail and I feel like it’s missing a liquor, what would you suggest? Currently I’ve got: Homemade rhubarb & thyme purée, Lemon juice, Roku gin, Club soda, Thoughts? I have sweet vermouth on hand but would happily pick up something new. Would love to figure something out without trial and erroring all of the puree up as it’ll be a while before I can harvest any more rhubarb. submitted by /u/tatertotter_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I had this drink in an American Express lounge. I took a pic of the ingredients but forgot to ask the bartender what the proportions would be. Can anyone take their best guess? Also what would an appropriate substitute be for the Leopold Brothers Apertivo be if I can’t find it? Thanks! submitted by /u/keatz_tweetz [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Getting married soon - would like thoughts on our cocktail selection.

Hello, my fiancée and I are getting married next month, and we both have signature cocktails and a shortlist of suggested drinks (most people in our families aren't into cocktails). Her signature cocktail is something she found on a bar menu a year ago - it's also the first drink she ever ordered after turning 21. Gentleman's Fig 1.5 oz Figenza Vodka, 1 oz Four Roses Bourbon, .5 oz lemon juice, and muddled blueberries, topped with ginger ale and served on ice. Mine is something I thought of and am willing to take criticism on. The Thistle 1 oz Botanist Gin, .5 oz Drambuie, .5 oz Italicus, and ..read more

Uses for Ida Graves Amaro?

I made some Paper Planes for my co-workers a while ago and my Boss likes them so much he looked up the recipe and went to Total Wine to pick up the ingredients. Not wanting to spend $52 for the Amaro Nonino I recommended, he picked this random Minnesota based one not knowing Amari can greatly differ from one to another. It doesn't really work in a Paper Plane, to the extent he went back and bought the Nonino anyway. But what to do with this opened bottle? Some quick Googling didn't really yield any results; if I had to pin it down, it's more of a moderate Amaro compared to Nonino's light ..read more

This is my first pass for a drink I am making, and I'm pretty happy with it, but am looking to see if there's any improvements to be made. Idea behind it: Doscher Bros. is the oldest surviving confectioner in Cincinnati and the US (founded in 1871), as well as the oldest candy cane manufacturer in the US. They helped to establish the National Confectioner's Association. One of the candies they're most famous for is the French Chew, developed in 1896 during the Turkish taffy craze in France (hence the name French Chew). A vanilla nougat-like bar that is a non-newtonian fluid so you can sl ..read more

Dune-inspired cocktails

I’m planning to host a Dune party in a month or so and am customizing three cocktails inspired by the Dune universe; Spice Melange, Water of Life, and Desert Tears. I’ve got everything but the Water of Life figured out. Obviously I want to retain the blue appearance and think blue curaçao is a must, I’m considering an Empress gin or vodka as base, but interested if anyone has some insight as to other ingredients. Obviously the Dune water of life is like a poison, and though I don’t want anyone to experience an ordeal like that drinking it, I’m wondering if maybe it should be a bit strong ..read more
