Wax On, Wax Off Happy Friday, friends of Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles! How’s it goin? How’s the civil war goin? How’s 2021 goin? Yeesh….anyway. Let us not dwell on things. Let this be your weekly respite. Who’s seen Karate Kid? Who HASN’T seen Karate Kid? Who doesn’t love a tale of an old guy teaching a young kid to beat the hell out of another young kid? God I miss the 80s **sniffs** “Oh god, Sweeve is going on another pop-culture tangent again.” No no. Fear not. This won’t be a repeat of last week. In Karate Kid, our protagonist, Daniel, is taken in to be trained by Karate master ..read more

Well well well! We have now come to that point. 2020 has officially been put to bed. A year in which so much happened yet somehow felt like it never happened. What a better time than to make final stop in our meandering journey through the various genres and musical artists that serve as inspiration to the working artists here in the underground. But first off, since wee took the day off, let me wish everyone a merry Xmas from everyone here at Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday safely, however you celebrated. I’m sure most everyone has a myriad of things going ..read more

Welcome back, friends! Hard to believe another week has blown by here at Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles. For what is typically referred to as “the slow season” in the tattoo industry, things sure seem hectic! Can you believe in only a few weeks it will be 2021?? If only my 8 year old self could see me now. Where’s my flying car??? So another Friday means another exploration into what helps drive and inspire the artists here at our little corner of the underworld. This week we take a look at the big boss man. The skipper. Shop dictator owner, Scott Glazier! Take a look at Scott’s fine art and ta ..read more

Well well well, friends of Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles. Here we are again. Another week, another round of confusing lockdown orders and mid 70s. What an age in which we live! This year is one giant time vortex. There are no months. There are no seasons. As of today, December 7th, the Mayor of Los Angeles has NOT ordered tattooing to shut down as long as we follow our already strict sanitation and protective measures. Kind of a “duh” moment for our industry! But enough of that. Life is heavy enough as it is without a bunch of doom and gloom. In these trying times, we need some things to help ..read more

Welcome back, friends, family and fans of Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles! It’s that season again! Things tend to get rather hectic and stressful for a lot of people around the holidays under the best of circumstances. This year? Well, need I say more? For that reason, I think it would be a nice opportunity to slow things down a bit. Usually I like to bring you a long-winded history lesson on here (I blame college), but over the next few weeks, I’d like to change it up slightly. Let’s talk inspiration for a bit. With tattooing, or any visual medium for that matter, inspiration is usually pretty r ..read more

Welcome back to Speakeasy Tattoo Los Angeles, you funky kids! You know what day it is! BLACK FRIDAY A name that sounds way cooler than it is. I hope everyone survived the Thanksgiving gluttony! Since everyone is probably still feeling full, it seems like a good time to talk about eating and tattoos. Why would I bring those things up in the same place? I’ll tell you why. Calm down. I can only type so fast and I’m still feeling lethargic! Which also ties into what I’m talking about. It can all be tied together in two scary words: VASOVAGAL REACTION!!!!! Happy Friday friends freaks and fiends of Speakeasy Tattoo Los Angeles! What a week! Only one week until Thanksgiving! What better way to add onto those quarantine lbs than to stuff our faces with empty carbs and dense Tofurkey! But who cares?! Are you really that concerned about arbitrary standards of “ideal” beauty? Hell no! If you are really worried about it, just grab a corset and cinch away those inches! Oh boy, what is he on about this time? Who knows, but talking about corsets makes me want to talk about one of my biggest, all-time favorite artists. As you all well know, as fans o ..read more

Hello again fans of Speakeasy Tattoo Los Angeles. Nate here with another shop update and edition of tattoo news. It has been an action packed week around the shop as we prepare to do our first live stream event later this evening which I suggest tuning in to. All the artists will be answering questions and we will be doing some fun giveaways and selling prints, it’s bound to be a good time. This week I wanted to talk about practicing as someone who aspires to tattoo as it is one of the questions I am asked most often as an apprentice. Emulating an actual persons skin is no easy task. Not only ..read more

Happy Friday, friends, family and fans of Speakeasy Tattoo, Los Angeles! What a week. I know things here in the Sweeve household have certainly been distracting, as I am sure it has been with all of you after Tuesday’s presidential election. As crazy as things may be in the 2020 era, one thing is certain (at least for most of us); time may pass, but your hair still grows and your beard still needs a trim. Now that both tattoo shops and barbers are open for the foreseeable future, it seems like an appropriate time to explore the interwoven relationship between barbers and modern tatto ..read more

Hello again fans of Speakeasy Tattoo Los Angeles. Nate here with another shop update and feature of tattoo news. It has been another productive week around the shop as we have finally been given the thumbs up to officially open to the public. As such it seams all artists around the shop are reaching their peak creative potentials and creating some amazing tattoos in the process. This week I want to talk about a topic that I was recently asked about. You know when someone asks you a question you are totally unprepared for? Well, someone inquired to me about the prospect of getting a glow in the ..read more
