Hi, I am new into this world and don’t really know anyone in this field. I see a lot advice on how to start or a lot of drama adult courses online. But what do I do if I would love to specialise into comedy acting? Is there specific courses and schools for that? Is that a thing? Or you just do drama and later it depends what jobs you get? For reference I am 27y old , from UK, Manchester submitted by /u/Successful-Climate99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

You don’t need drama school

Hi everyone! This post is for everyone who is thinking of going to drama school, but mostly for “mature” amateur actors looking for a way in. I am doing an MA degree at XXX and I am here to tell you - you don’t need drama school, especially if you want to do film, TV or VO. There is a lot of abuse from lecturers and the industry has not changed when it comes to that. They will treat you badly although you paid for the course and are a full blown adult (our course is mixed with the youngest being 21 and oldest in his seventies.) It is not just me - I have witnessed people crying, people filing ..read more

Is it time to let old dogs lie if I'm 30 w/ a full beard? AKA, new headshots time?

I just got new headshots done and they look good, but I have a small stubble going on..as 5-7 months have passed by since then, I have only shaved maybe 2-3 times. In almost every self-tape I'm saying, "and I can be clean shaven if needed" I'm kinda scared of getting headshots w/ full facial hair..its like, I'm getting old..I'm not a young kid anymore, I guess I'm scared. At the same time, I feel I look a bit "more handsome" with a beard. I'm trying to find a trimmer to trim it down slightly, not shave the entire thing off. I think I find one for $100 which feels like a punch in the gut. anyw ..read more

I applied for a role in a student film a few months ago which was supposed to shoot earlier this month. It’s my first time applying and auditioning for something. I didn’t hear anything back other than a ‘we’ll be in touch’ which I knew was unlikely if I didn’t get the role. I didn’t hear anything back and I had forgotten about it until last week I had an email asking if I was still interested in the role because the team were very keen on giving me the role. I found out that the actress that they originally cast cancelled so I’m assuming I was the second option, fine by me. It’s an unpaid ro ..read more

Context (scroll down if you only want to read the problem): Hi! I'm a very passionate individual when it comes to acting, singing , and dancing <3 for now this is a hobby but I'm working on my skills to in the future to be able to make some money from it without losing my career (I do something non-artistic for a living and I genuinely love it too). I'm 24 if that somehow is relevant. I'll give a bit of context of me as a person for the problem to be understood better. I have been wanting to get diagnosed for asperger due to certain things, specially with how much I struggle with socializi ..read more

This question is directed towards the Canadian Actors. I’m currently a Canadian Actess who would like to accept some work in LA, can I just fly there and show up for the job? or do I need some sort of work permit. What will happen if I fly out to LA for a month and just try to work? Would really appreciate any help on this! Thanks:) submitted by /u/Icy-Cover9812 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
