Not sure what to do- acting or computer science

Hi there! So to give you a rundown- I’m a freshman in college who is majoring in computer science. I’m fairly interested in it, and I think it would be a good career. On the other hand, in high school I took some acting courses and got a manager at a pretty well known management company in LA. My manager and I have communicated about still sending me auditions even though I am out of state, which I agreed to. I really do like acting, but I always have this issue where when I get auditions I’m not a big fan of the projects, and I don’t feel that excited to do it. I’m not sure what it is, but i ..read more

First time trying to start in acting since I was in college. 44f (pretty much always told I look much younger than I am), petite, fit body type, dark chin length hair. I have an audition for a local theater company. It's for the entire season with five different companies so there's a wide possibility of roles. It's an open audition, appointment required but no agent/headshot/any paperwork required. They said to have two contrasting one minute monologues. I have chosen the Vincent Price spoken monologue from the Micheal Jackson's Thriller and the bathroom restaurant monologue from Ferris Buel ..read more

I've had a previous thread that got some great responses regarding representation (see link below). https://www.reddit.com/r/acting/comments/1cbn6fg/comment/l1a61b6/?context=3 I'm curious to some of the actors who've had experience in being with the upper echelons of representation (i.e. CAA, WME, IAG, Gersh ect.) How did you end up being signed? How has it changed your career? For the better and even for the worse? Full transparency. submitted by /u/Own_Antelope1095 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi there, I’ve been asked to do self tapes by an agency since a year ago. Over the year I have taken many acting courses and done some practice on my own too but when it comes to making tapes, I’ve become very hard on myself in terms of choosing the “right” materials. It feels like a blockage I’m finding hard to overcome. Anyone have any suggestions as to how do I tackle this task and get this done and move on? I really really wish to do acting professionally and want to be signed but the inner hold back is just not leaving me as of now. Picking materials have only become a stressful thing. A ..read more

A bit of brief background: I’m a 25 AA female. I’ve always wanted to be actor since middle school. I did theatre from then until early college. My parents refused to allow me to get a BA in theatre so instead I went for media production and film. In hindsight, i’m glad they made me switch. I currently work on contract as a morning news producer but I want pursue my acting career again as that’s what I really always wanted to do. Ive taken a few classes, been doing a few theatre shows, volunteered to act in my peers student projects while in college, and was the lead in my friends 5 episode we ..read more

My resume is all high school productions

I am putting together my resume for the first time after graduating high school and I realized that my only experience with acting is high school productions. Some of them were plays I wrote for public performances as part of the class, but other than those, all my "credits" are fall/spring productions. Is this okay for an actor, at least one that's starting out? submitted by /u/MooseGoose_05 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Although there is no such thing as an easy agency, I feel like there are a lot of agencies that would accept me that I still never heard of. I’ve googled and research a ton of agencies in Atlanta, but I seem to be only finding really big names . Can someone give me a list of small but legit agenies in Atlanta? submitted by /u/Psychological-Lie44 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I've been saying "Im going to be an actor" in answer to the 'what do you want to be when you grow up' question since I could talk, so now at 25 I figure it's time I put my money where my mouth is so I tried to figure out how you go about doing that...and got so overwhelmed its insane. I've read the FAQs, I'm reading the google searches and watching the videos trying to figure it out but omg where do you start?! I'm coming at this as someone with no real experience, have been unemployed due to disability for years so I'm broke and with limited movement (At the moment I'm working on it, hence t ..read more

Acting quality on HBO show The Sympathizer - lacking authenticity?
Reddit » Acting

So I watched the first 2 episodes of The Sympathizer, a much-hyped HBO show. I found both of them hard to watch because the acting was so strange. It felt like the actors didn't react to each other - they just delivered their lines how they wanted the lines to sound, often quite exaggerated. Most of the acting felt very unauthentic. And yet in the subreddits dedicated to the show, most of the comments said the actors were excellent. Now I am a relatively new actor who is trained in the Meisner technique, so when I act I try to react to my scene partners and to the circumstances, and when I sa ..read more
