An update on Heidi, our rescued Olive Ridley Turtle

Heidi, a 65cm 29kg male Olive Ridley Turtle, was found entangled in a ghost net in the Maldives 4 years ago. Ghost nets are abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing lines and nets that float in our ocean and cause the injury and death of countless marine species across the globe. Heidi’s entanglement caused life-changing injuries, including the loss of his front left flipper. His remaining front flipper suffered extensive muscle, nerve and blood vessel damage meaning he would not have survived in the wild.  He was sent to the Olive Ridley Project Marine Turtle Rescue Centre. Summer is fast approaching and we have a lot on for everyone to get involved in! Our opening hours are also changing for summer! We are quickly approaching summer, our peak period! For the first time we are extending our opening hours both at the beginning and the end of the day. Immersive art exhibition set to open in the National Marine Aquarium

A new immersive art exhibit is opening in the National Marine Aquarium on the 8th July 2022. Titled ‘The Seagrass Walk’, the exhibit will be a blue carbon-inspired immersive experience that uses multimedia informed by scientific research to showcase the ocean’s wonder plant, seagrass. Rosie Sherwood, the UK’s first Blue Carbon Artist in Residence, has been working with people and organisations across Plymouth to create the immersive experience.
