Aidan & The Wild – Dreamer

It might be quite and tender but ‘Dreamer’ is involving and that may well be down to the interweaving vocals (Diederik van den Brandt and Dési Ducrot) which allow us to detach from the world and tap into Aidan & The Wild’s version of it. And I know which one I prefer, well for 4 minutes or so, because this is the very essence of tender loving entertainment that steadies a ship that was moments earlier listing into a sea of confusion. Instead the swell is our friend, a singalong possible if we so desire but for all a chance to take advantage of a warm embrace. KH Aidan & the Wild · Dr ..read more

Gushh – Nothing is Lost

Gushh always visit upon us an occasion of evocative, reminding as they do of Explosions in the Sky but always with a pounding heart that begs us to dream a little harder. In other words work these days so we make a better fist of the joy and glory all around especially when it comes to protecting this little planet we inhabit. And it is courtesy of bands like Gushh that we are wholesomely reminded so long may they reign. This is tear inducing stuff, post-rock might have finally found a new champion, Earth it seems is once again not a cold, dead place. KH Gushh · Gushh – Nothing Is Lost mp3hu ..read more

Kynsy – Money

There’s a slacker quality to that opening but you’d be foolish to hang your hat on it staying that way for ‘Money’ sure does an ambition to fly and we’re talking way above the cloud and into the outer atmosphere Bends-like Radiohead endeavour. The real charm though comes from the pilot who offers a steady hand a vocal direction that has a classic chanteuse to a degree that Dublin Kynsy has a genuine classic rock feel. But that is not to sound in the least bit hoary because ‘Money’ is flash with invention, never standing still and landing at a destination named anthemic well before the end. Th ..read more

Tyler Black – In The Summer

There is most definitely a clever mind at the controls here, guitars that could have come from any of the last few decades and a singer who is most definitely high on life. And able to throw that feeling of elation at every turn, in fact I was reminded of the Coral in the way there is a jangling basis but the mainstay is the vocal gymnastics – like the Strokes but taken out of NYC and relocated beach side and where the rays are always there to warm the skin and more importantly the cockles of our heart. Despite all the bad luck thrown his way this act is capable of bringing the sunshine. KH ..read more

Jack Manley – Save Your Own

It rather bursts into a plume of indie rockness in a most melodic of ways. So we get the rough and the smooth and it feels like a potent combination because Jack Manley knows how to pull the strings that mixes heavy percussive elements with that sky high soaring singing voice of his. ‘Save Your Own’ sure put a pep in my step, coming across like a top Brendan Benson effort and for me that is the strongest aspect of the song – it has the ring of an anthem but never one that gets in the way of a damn good tune. A rollicking few minutes that I know we are going to return to time and again. KH Sav ..read more

Black Currants – Burning All My Bridges

The production sound ambitious, grandiose even and so ‘Burning All My Bridges’ had me tuned in completely from the first second. Helsinki’s Black Currants understand what it takes to provide us with an immersive experience, slightly psychedelic, chords fully charged and a beat that holds it all together and keeps the fires burning. This could be the Brian Jonestown Massacre or the Velvet Underground or Joy Zipper and that is a good estimation of the success of ‘Burning All My Bridges’. Emmrose – Tattoo

We first featured English act Emmrose back in 2019 (‘Hopeless Romantics’) and the fact that in 2024 she is still only 20-years-old shows you the talent we are dealing with. And it is her voice that remains so striking all these years later as illustrated on new single ‘Tattoo’, which might have a melancholic romantic tale to impart but boy does it have bristle with an energy that radiates from the speaker. In fact ‘Tattoo’ goes from slightly demure to all out anthemic over the course of just under three minutes of indie-rock narnia. The clarity in the production gives the piece an even more v ..read more

We expect a minimum from Denmark’s Kindsight but the reality is that their output usually goes way beyond that. I mean where else would you get a rush of beats and flailing chords in the company of a dreamy chanteuse (Nina Hyldgaard Rasmussen) who controls the room because there is majesty in her every inflection. In fine tradition it is all over in 2 minutes but not before we are privy to a round of furious noise that is not quite rampaging but fills our hearts desire for that combination of the sweet and the thunder. Molteno – Clouds

Always a pleasure to welcome Molteno (Jess Molteno Murray) back in our lives because she always brings a heart swelling standard to proceedings. ‘Clouds’ sure is a fast mover too, one the limelight is taken by a vocal line that will always showcase a most angelic expressions. I do believe this is most intense thing I’ve heard from the London act but it so beautifully produced it sounds natural and organic despite the electronic bluster all around. Come the end it feels we’ve just come back from a retreat and are thus empowered to take on the world with renewed vigour. KH MOLTENO · Clouds mp3 ..read more

Ooshmann – Banh Mi La

What really drew me into the Banh Mi La vortex were the clean electronic lines and Ooshmann just make good on the auspicious start to keep the groove ticking over nicely for several minutes. I was thinking Daniel Avery/Orbital among others, the tribal features offering down time while the piece gathered steam and returned in new and interesting ways. This is clear soundtrack material, not needing visuals but you could see how the combination could be a visceral thrill. I’m properly in my element here, clever electronica back in the groove thanks to Ooshmann. KH Ooshmann · Banh Mi La mp3hugge ..read more
