I’ve heavily considered going into biotech sales (extroverted personality, love to talk science, not do science, highly money motivated, love going to conferences)
I wanted to know what were the cons of having a biopharmaceutical sales job (instability? no job/pay security/ learning curve/ stuck to one location/ too much traveling?) I’m also an international student so job security is something I have to weigh in, unfortunately and from what I know, highly technical people are more likely to get sponsored.
(If anyone in sales currently wants to connect on Linkedin, I’d love to chat!)

I love this sub. It’s been a great source of information for many of us.
The last few months have been primarily discussions of layoffs. We all recognize the struggles the sector is going through, and I don’t doubt that. I do think that if you struggle with the stress of these things that Reddit and this sub are not going to help. You won’t see the posts of the 90% that kept their jobs (or insert whatever number), and the majority of us are keeping our jobs. You’ll only read doom and gloom which can really be triggering for some…well, because it is quite scary.

Currently working as an RA at a startup in San Diego but with tight financing I don’t know how long that will be for.
We are looking to relocate to Sacramento for my partners job so I’m looking at opportunities out of the lab like program coordinator / manager, clinical research coordinator, or sales.
Can anyone comment on the state of the market in Sacramento? Is it even tougher since there’s limited companies there? Any tips or guidance?

Hello all,
I have been applying like crazy to get an industry position, mainly looking into roles as an RA in molecular biology, biochemistry, or plain biology. I have had my resumé submitted by a number of recruiters to different CROs and I’m expecting at least one Teams interview in the future.
I was curious specifically if there were CROs that have good (or bad) reputations, if the work life/culture was generally good, or if those things ultimately come down to the people and opportunities you have at client sites?
Thanks in advance!

I have heard that people working in big pharma have received severance packages after "speaking up" / reporting misconduct in order for the company to "get rid of the problem".
Does anyone know how many months of severance are usually granted? (I know the standard package in big pharma is usually 1 month for every year of service up to a maximum of 24 months).
How many extra months of severance does being "trouble" for the company give you?

I've been working in analytical development (AD) since I joined industry. The work suits me fine, but I've noticed that SVPs or CSOs are usually from early discovery background. In my previous, bigger, company, colleagues from early discovery seem to receive more recognition and visibility. When AD or other teams like in vivo or translational medicine presented, the VPs appeared less enthusiastic and engaged compared to early discovery. I always wondered whether this is unique to that company or a common issue. Does being part of a team that's closer to the company's core programs provide bet ..read more

I am considering doing a postdoc at this company. I have not heard much about the postdoc program and how much value it might add to someone investing in an industrial career at biotech/pharma. If you’re a former postdoc from Genentech, could you comment on what roles have you moved on to after the program? TIA
