How to Tile a Shower the Easy Way
Welcome To The Woods

The small bathroom I have been renovating has a bathtub, but no shower. To transform this space into a full shower and tub I had to learn how to tile a shower, the easy way! Demolition and Plumbing To begin this project I demolish the walls down to the studs. Once the walls are completely demolished I call my plumber. He came and extended my plumbing that went to my tub. He brought the plumbing up the wall to create a shower system as well. The next step in my demolition was to remove and replace the old insulation and the old window. New Base for the Shower Walls After the insulation and win ..read more

How to Lay Self-Leveling Concrete DIY
Welcome To The Woods
by Melissa Woods

In the lake house I am renovating I have been working on an outdated bathroom. I am remodeling it entirely down to the studs. This is going to focus on what I did to the floor and how to lay self-leveling concrete.  Getting Rid of the Current Flooring My initial plan was to lay overtop of the current tile, but a lot of it is damaged. The plumber came to do some work for me and he damaged more of it. So, I am starting by removing the floor tile and starting to build back. After all of the tile is removed I use my Oscillating Multi-Tool and Grinder to scrape the dried mortar off of th ..read more

Hollow Core Doors Upgrade DIY
Welcome To The Woods
by Melissa Woods

The lake house I have been renovating had outdated hollow core doors from the late 50’s that had never been touched; it was time for a hollow core doors upgrade to make them pop! They are dented and plain and I want to give them a new style that fits with the modern cottage design I’ve done throughout the lake house. Hollow Door Removal I start by removing the hollow core doors from their frames, I also remove the handles. I then mark the tops of each door. This allows me to know which doors go where because rectangular doors fit very specifically in their jambs.  Cutting Hollow Core Doo ..read more

Welcome To The Woods

I renovated my outdated lakehouse bathroom into a relaxing space that has a vintage modern style. This space went all the way down to the studs and needed so much work! I did this diy small bathroom remodel in about three months working almost entirely alone starting from demo to the finish caulking on the tub. Bathroom Demolition To start I removed window trim, old fixtures, and drywall. I originally planned to save the tile, but my plans changed when I took out the vanity area. I found severe water damage in the drywall and tile so it needed replacing. When the bathroom was down to the stu ..read more

Exterior Makeover: Start to Finish
Welcome To The Woods
by Melissa Woods

Four months of hard work have paid off with the lakehouse exterior makeover finally complete. This project took the entirety of my summer, but the results are stunning. The original yellow color mixed with multiple areas of water damage led to the start of tackling this major project. Kitchen Door Removal The house initially had five entrances including one located in the kitchen. When I designed the kitchen makeover, I decided it would be better to have more wall space for storage than to keep an entrance that had the kitchen function more as a walkway. I removed the door and put some plywoo ..read more

Welcome To The Woods

Ever since we bought this house I have been wanting to change the siding color from yellow to something more neutral and modern. Previously we had to sand all of the areas where the paint was peeling off. In this post, I’ll be painting exterior siding using paint and primer by Behr! Preparations for Painting Before I began painting, I started by taking down the shutters, which was very simple just removing a few screws. I thought the railings were visually heavy on ..read more

Litheli Lawn Mower
Welcome To The Woods

Recently I received a 17″ Cordless Lawn Mower from Litheli and I am so impressed with this product! I have been slowly migrating away from gas in my life and switching to an electric lawn mower made a lot of sense. Electric lawnmowers are more environmentally friendly today because they do not need gas, have less maintenance due to fewer moving parts, and are easier to handle than gas mowers. My favorite part of the mower is how lightweight and easy to maneuver it is. I previously used a self-propelled gas mower, which was nearly impossible to push without using the propelling mechanism.
