Granite support

We replaced our old dishwasher with a Bosch and thought the dimensions were the same- wrong! The dishwasher fits width and height wise but is sticking out about 2 inches. We have a cabinet on either side of the dishwasher with a granite counter top. Do these wooden support pieces need to be here or can they be removed to allow for the space we need? (My husband did cut them down a bit but it’s not enough.) Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks! submitted by /u/skate201014 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Customer is upset with checking

Repaired a rotted gate last week with PT and it got hot this week. Just got a call from customer about checking in wood. Took a look today and offered to cut the excess off the top and cap it. She’s insists the wood is second grade and wants it replaced. Post is set in concrete. I’ve never dealt with this. My customers have always seemed to have the sense that wood will do this. Not sure how to proceed. Work has been paid for. submitted by /u/builderguy74 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hampshire, UK based places to buy timber?

Hello, I have a lot of DIY projects already started and will soon employ my DIY CNC for local orders. I'm struggling to find any sawn Cedar around here for example. Any advice on what websites to be checking for general timber that's not just treated pine? Based around Southampton. I've tried all the local timber mills, but they seem really slow to respond and when they do their prices are higher than B&Q and Wickes, who are already marked to the first timer DIYer. For the latest fencing project it was cheaper to order oak posts and fencing materials from two separate suppliers and pay ov ..read more

Window Shutters

Just had window shutters installed in our den/family room. I’ve never had them before, but to me the top and bottom rails seem really large on the long narrow windows. Is this normal? Would it have been possible to add an extra slat and make the rails narrower? Maybe I’m overthinking this, but just wanted some thoughts since I have no experience with these types of window coverings. Maybe there’s a reason they’re so wide? submitted by /u/a_n_k_ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What's Your Threshold for Planing the Crown off of Studs

Framed with some somewhat beat-up Home Depot studs. A few of the studs have a decent bow into the room. I don't own a planer but was thinking of buying one and planing them back a bit. When would you bother doing this? submitted by /u/CobTheBuilder [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does anybody have any idea what the code requirements are around this? This is kind of a hard thing to search for. My next step is just to ask the inspector if I can't find anything. Thanks! submitted by /u/SmalllChange [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
