Realization after first propranolol use

I recently took 20mg of propranolol for a public speaking event, and the hype is real. It not only did the job, but I had zero side effects. In fact, I would not have even known I had taken medication if it wasn’t for the total absence of adrenaline during my speech. But it did make me realize something. If 100% of a person’s attention and energy is spent simply fighting to not have an anxiety meltdown, how can they ever expect to improve the craft of public speaking? Imagine someone who wants to improve as a writer but whenever they sit down at the keyboard, they’re gripped by a fear so inte ..read more

Will Propranolol really work for severe public speaking anxiety?

I know this sub gets a ton of questions regarding Propranolol. I am just another person desperate for help. I want to explain how bad my situation is so that people can possibly give some advice if they have been in or are currently in a similar situation as I am. I have awful public speaking anxiety. AWFUL. I am a 22 year old 5th year college student. COVID has kept me safe up until now, where my major no longer has any online classes. Many of these classes may require me to speak out loud in a formal way. The lone thought of this basically keeps me anxious all day every day because I know i ..read more

How to articulate my thoughts and experiences??

does it bother anyone else when they have the knowledge and experience and insight to answer questions and they have so much to say yet, whether it be due to anxiety or some other reason, they can’t muster up the necessary articulation of their own self and knowledge to answer the question in the way they wanted to? this happens to me all the time (even when responding to reddit comments ??) and i feel lowkey incompetent sometimes because I can’t seem to articulate myself or even recall my own experiences in the way I want to. And I say “want” because when I’m alone and talking to myself, I c ..read more

Does propranolol help with panic sweating?

I've tried propranolol a couple times and seems like it has worked for panicky settings. Whenever I had to be part of a big meeting at work or school, I used to sweat a lot. And I don't mean the nervous armpit sweat. I mean sweat dripping from my forehead from overheating. I think when I have to speak up at meetings I'm okay with the tremors and shaky voice, but I really hate when I start panicking and then start sweating a lot. submitted by /u/dannyjerome0 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does anyone no longer need beta blockers?

Howdy. Got a script a little while ago and it’s great. I used to hate coming onto this sub and seeing “propranolol” but it’s saved me a ton of times, and I pushed aside my ego and realized I needed help. The more meetings I have, interviews, presentations, and even tough social situations, the easier they become each time. I feel like propranolol “reset” my brain into thinking these situations are NOT scary - thus, reducing my anticipatory anxiety. Anyways - did anyone get over their public speaking anxiety and does no longer need to take beta blockers? I’m assuming it’s happened, and a lot o ..read more

Have to give first public talk

I have to give my first public lecture in a few days in front of dozens of people. It's going to last 40 minutes. Let me give you some background: as a kid, I had a horrible stutter. As an adult, I have a speech hesitation that gets better when I avoid drinking alcohol. I've been sober for 10 days. I'm an excellent writer and have written the speech already, but thinking about voicing it out loud to dozens of people literally makes me throw up. In fact, I would not be surprised if, during the talk, I threw up right then and there, on the floor. I'm not kidding. I have propanalol to help with ..read more

Propranolol Questions

How many times should I test it out before I have to deliver my speech? Do I need to test the full amount I plan on taking before speech? (ie. plan on taking 40mg day of speech but have only trialed once with 20mg). How long to take before the actual speech? I've seen varying answers on this. I was thinking a couple hours prior to make sure it has kicked in. Open to hearing any other feedback/advice on using it as this will be my first time. submitted by /u/tommychess [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
