I started The Picture Book Review in 2012. I started this blog because I wanted to talk to people about the picture books we were reading and especially about books that were appealing to my son. Here you will find Reviews of Children's Board Books, Picture Books, Activity Books, and Graphic Novels.

Where to Get Bubble Wrap Girl

It’s gotten so much better over the years, but when my kids were very little I spent a lot of time just being scared that something was going to happen to them. I was always amazed at how other parents seemed so calm all the time, because I was often scared. I am so much happier now that my kids are older. Their internal sense of self-preservation still isn’t great, but it, too, has gotten so much better over the yea ..read more

Toni Buzzeo author of many, many excellent picture books was kind enough to talk to me about her new book When Sue Found Sue and a bit about writing in general. I’m thrilled and so grateful she was able to take some time and answer my questions. I hope you enjoy!
When Sue Found Sue is excellent in every way! I have two boys and they were enthralled from start to finish. You’ve got them digging for dinosaur bones in our bac ..read more

Where to Get POP-UP SHAKESPEARE

Have you ever seen The Reduced Shakespeare Company? I’ve never had the opportunity to see them in person, but years ago, back in the days of DVDs, I watched their DVD something like 20-30 times. I love them! They make Shakespeare so accessible, lively, and energetic. And completely hilarious. Every high school should start off doing The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged if they can. These guys just do such a grea ..read more

I love The Cook and the King by Julia Donaldson and David Roberts so much. It is the most pure and unadulterated fun I have personally had while reading a picture book aloud to my kids in ages. When we finished reading this book the first time – both of my children literally cheered and then asked me to read it again.
I felt so good after reading it – because it reminded me how much and why I love picture books so much. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read a lot o ..read more

Where to Get Trees: A Rooted History
[Affiliate Link] Amazon [Local Bookstore] Indiebound [Library] Worldcat
How’s the cover image for you? Is it big enough? I hope so! I was trying to make it really big. I want it to fill your screen so that you can get a sense of how big this book is. It’s not particularly thick, all told it is 72 pages, but wow, it is a TALL book. Which I think is perfect, because this book is all about trees and trees are, well, tall. Please let me know if the cover is somehow warped for you, but I really hop ..read more

Animals Noses by Mary Holland is part of a series of picture books about animal anatomy – the others being Animal Ears, Animal Eyes, Animal Mouths, Animal Legs, and Animal Tales. This is the first one we’ve read in this series – and we love it. We read the English language version, but a Spanish language version is also available.

Here Comes Ingo is unlike any picture book I’ve ever read or seen before. Author and artist, Odeta Xheka uses abstract collage and says that her book, “exemplifies a progression of thinking leading towards love, kindness and inclusion because the world needs more empathetic, understand and tolerant children.”
