A tourist from Oklahoma is living out a traveling hunter’s nightmare in Turks and Caicos, where he was detained and jailed after customs officials found some forgotten ammunition in his luggage. The man could now face up to 12 years in prison due to a strict law that prohibits the possession of firearms, ammo, and other weapons in the British Overseas Territory, according to NBC News.   Ryan Watson, of Oklahoma City, had flown with his wife and two friends to the small Caribbean island on April 7. He had plans to celebrate his 40th birthday there. Those plans were quickly derailed when ai ..read more

A lake sturgeon that was tagged in a Wisconsin river years ago has traveled so far down the Mississippi River that it’s taken biologists from two different states to track it. In a Facebook post on Monday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced that the fish was captured at the Lock 26 Dam near Alton, Illinois. Biologists with the Missouri Department of Conservation caught the fish during a survey on the Mississippi, which forms the state line between Missouri and Illinois. The WDNR says the sturgeon’s downriver journey is one of the farthest ever recorded for that population ..read more

A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesperson confirmed in an email to Outdoor Life that “this animal is a gray wolf from the Great Lakes population.” The USFWS was notified of the discovery by Colorado Parks and Wildlife after the rancher reported it to a CPW wildlife officer. Learn More › If one set out to design the perfect traditional hunting rifle it would look a lot like the Sako 90 Adventure. At first glance you might wonder whether such praise is warranted. The traditional American stock isn’t nearly as avant-garde as many of the competition-inspired lightweight stocks that have gained traction in recent years. And the heart of the rifle — Sako’s three-lug bolt action — has been a fixture in the Finnish gunmaker’s line for decades. A close examination will quic ..read more

That modularity makes it one of the best options for a hunter or shooter looking to buy their first one. When buying my first suppressor, I wanted one that I could use on multiple rifles, so I picked a .30-caliber can that was made to thread over muzzle brakes or flash hiders. I could install the brakes on different rifles and swap the can between them at will — a ..read more

A South Carolina fossil hunter is lucky to be alive and with both arms intact after a near-death encounter with an alligator last week. William Georgitis, who lives near Charleston, was scuba diving in the Cooper River on April 15 when he was brutally attacked, death-rolled, and pinned to the bottom of the river by the large gator. The attack lasted for around 15 minutes, according to one of Georgitis’ friends. At one point, with his mangled arm stuck in the alligator’s jaws and no air left in his tank, Georgitis fought back with the only weapon he had at the time: a screwdriver.    ..read more
