RVs are made with imperfect materials, by imperfect people in an imperfect world. Don’t assume that just because everything worked last time you went camping in your RV, everything will be functioning correctly when you head out on your next camping trip. While it would take substantial time to check every feature on your RV before each camping trip, here are some ways to quickly assure the key items are ready to go ..read more

It’s nearly November, the autumn leaves are on the ground, and the reality of a long, wet winter is slowly setting in. You’d like to travel to a faraway land, but are still a bit shy of traveling abroad with the threat of COVID so fresh in your mind. A warm beach sounds divine, so what about van camping in Hawaii ..read more

It’s that time of year again. Time to think about winterizing the RV for its long winter’s nap. Most Northwest RVers know to perform the needed steps to protect their RVs plumbing system from freezing. However, RV battery winter storage is often overlooked during the winterizing process. If you take the proper steps to protect your lead acid batteries when putting your RV into winter hibernation, they will be ready to go camping come spring ..read more

“Rubber” (more properly EPDM or TPO) is the most common roof covering material for RVs. Regardless of their seemingly fragile composition, they are fairly robust. Major damage can occur to rubber roofs, with common causes being treefall and lack of maintenance, which tends to lead to water damage. However, most minor damage, such as small holes and tears, can be repaired by most RV owners with little difficulty and few tools. In this article I will describe rubber roof patching using the example of specific damage identified on an RV ..read more

The greatest design feature about your RV, no matter the make or model, is also its greatest flaw when it comes to heating or cooling. Because it goes everywhere you want it to, rolling above the speed bumps and potholes of the world, the weather can surround it on all sides, above and below. Unlike a traditional home, there is no connection to the warm embrace of Mother Earth; this means a loss of efficiency, higher heating and cooling expenses, a greater reliance on fossil fuels and the possibility of frozen pipes ..read more

My wife has camped at Fort Flagler State Park since she was a child. The park was also the first camping experiences for my daughter and son. Both camped there before they were a year old. One of the many activities we have enjoyed there through the years is traversing the park exploring the old military batteries. When our children were young, my wife and I were “middle age”, we laced up the boots and visited the batteries on foot. As our children became older, bicycles became the preferred mode of transportation ..read more

Those of us that enjoy riding an ATV or UTV and call Washington State home know that finding a legal place to “just ride forest roads” within the state is difficult. Sure, you can go to a designated ORV area where boundaries limit your travels and the trails are better suited for experienced riders. If you are like me, lack of friendly areas to ride an ATV has sent you to other northwest states such as Oregon, Idaho or Montana where regulations aren’t as strict and your RVing / ATV tourist dollars are welcome.
Given soaring fuel prices this summer, traveling out of state with the RV was an e ..read more
