I'm a casual hiker. The longest hike I've done has been 13 miles. There's a hike that has caught my eye, but it seems to be around 17-19 miles depending on the route you take, and quite difficult. I'm trying to figure out a good way to determine if I'm ready for it or not.
I've done lots of 9+ mile hikes without trouble. I was pretty tired after the 13 mile hike, but it was also in pretty terrible conditions (raining the whole way, lots of elevation gain, had to walk in a river because it was flooded, had to run a couple miles to get back before dark because I started too late in the day).

Hi,
I currently have the MSR EVO with 3 rubber strap on the top of the boot and one on the hill.
The thing that bother me on that snowshoe of the noise it makes when walking on hard pack snow and on ice. IT makes so much noise. The injected plastic frame seems to amplify the noise,And the binding take some time to put.
I am shopping for another pair of snowshoe and Id like to have your feedback and opinions of 2MSR Lightning Ascent and Lightning Explore. They are similar but have different biding.
1 - How is the durability ofthe rubber the PAragon and the HyperLink binding over years. Do t ..read more

I was wondering if anyone could share a hiking challenge in the US that a park they have been to had? There are parks that do prizes for certain things, Indiana dunes for example is one of a few that I've been to, where you hike the 3 dunes and show the ranger, and you get a sticker. I was curious of challenges other state or national parks that I could do. Links included would be appreciated.

So I'm nervous about elevation sickness and would love input from those that live at lower altitudes about your experience hiking at higher ones.
I live in Wisconsin and am planning on hiking Pike's Peak at the end of May with a friend. Our plan is to drive there over two days, acclimate in Colorado Springs for 3 days, then take two days to hike the mountain (overnight at Barr Camp). Cog train down.
I've hiked a 8000' mountain this last summer with no issues. I'm preparing for this one by doing cycling (Peloton) 2x/wk and mixing in yoga/Pilates/weights. I'm in my mid-30s and am overall in dec ..read more

Looking for recommendations for good off-trail shoes. Something good for steep loamy pnw terrain. Looking for something with good traction that is fairly light. Ideally a shoe not a boot, and I don’t really care if they’re waterproof or not.
Thank you guys!
