It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Williams, who died on Friday 12th April 2024. Mike was a former player and 1st XV Vice-Captain of Blackheath FC. Mike joined the Club during the 1967-68 season, having previously played for Rosslyn Park and Oxford Greyhounds. He was educated at Oundle School and later Bristol University where he led their pack in the U.A.U. winning side in 1962. Later that year, he was in the Park’s successful Middlesex 7s side. During the 1967-68 season the Club 7s team was captained by Mike winning the Surrey Sevens among others. Mike was very int ..read more

Last Sunday 28 April, the Minis held their annual Minis’ Rugby Festival at Avery Hill Park. Being towards the end of the season they were hoping for favourable weather but unfortunately, the weather gods had a different idea!  The rain was not going to stop the event from going ahead and they hosted 12 clubs from far and wideacross London and Kent, which consisted of 71 teams and nearly 4 hours of wonderful rugby! For the first time this year the Blackheath Minis introduced the Tournify App to schedule the matches and provide clubs with all the information they needed for the day. It was ..read more

U12s Cowboy Tour to Newark
Blackheath Rugby Club
by Pamela Kilmister

The end of the season came in the form of a Wild West themed rugby tour to Newark for our U12s. Meeting bright & early on Saturday morning, they boarded the fun bus to a jam packed weekend. Fuelled by a McDonald’s breakfast pit stop, the team arrived at Stapleford Woods ready for bush crafting shenanigans with local company ‘A Little Bit Wilder’. Under the watchful eye of owner Nick Exley, they whittled, used knives and axes to prepare kindling, started fires, lazed in hammocks & played hide and seek, all before a delicious lunch of chilli & rice in the woods. The only thing left w ..read more

Rosslyn Park 29 Blackheath 29
Blackheath Rugby Club

A typical local derby between two clubs who have shared a rivalry since the 1880s, scrappy, and a little fractious at times (though never boiling over) but full of drama with honours even at the close. Undoubtably, it will be Blackheath who walked away the happier. The last-ditch converted try claimed three league points for the visitors against the side placed third in National League One, though even the most die-hard Rosslyn Park supporter must concede this was a far more enthralling contest than the uninspiring 15-0 victory for the Surrey team at The Utilita in December. Henley 2s 31 – Club XV 45
Blackheath Rugby Club

In a hastily arranged fixture following the cancellation of our scheduled home fixture with Belsize Park first team, the Club XV travelled to Henley for an end of season friendly. On a lovely warm and sunny afternoon, Blackheath wasted little time in crossing the whitewash with centre Isaiah Akpovwa touching down following a great passage of play involving both forwards and backs. In what was to become the pattern of thisgame, Henley hit back soon after with a nice try by their number 11 dotting down in the corner. Two excellent tries by 18-year-old centre, Tom Moran, who is certainly one to w ..read more
