The trademark “WITBULLE” officially belongs to Hoërskool Monument of Krugersdorp. They have registered it. Following a valuable win against fellow GLRU region rivals Helpmekaar in the opening match of the Noordvaal Cup, the Witbulle will be involved in another very high profile match against in-form EG Jansen of Boksburg. The Noordvaal Cup, the premier league of the region, consists of ten high schools now that Rustenburg has been promoted. At the onset it looks like two competitions in one with EG, Monnas, Garsfontein, Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel and Waterkloof competing of the four playoff berth ..read more

Sharks Rugby Day / Trials 2024 at Kings Park

Sharks Rugby Day takes place at Kings Park on 27 April 2024. Even though there has been a bit of resistance towards it in some quarters, it should prove to be a huge success. Amongst the big positives is player welfare, in that it does not overburden rugby boys with the responsibility of having to play midweek trials as well as having to focus on preparing and playing an interschools match the Saturday. All 10 Kwazulu-Natal top tier schools in action in proper full length matches. The selectors should have a pretty good idea about who they would like to select by now.  However in any give ..read more

Bishops Rugby:  “Victory had many fathers, defeat is an orphan”

April 2024 Bishops rugby at the moment. Bishops rugby finds itself at a challenging juncture. Bishops may not have been the first Southern Suburbs school to have been comfortably in control of a match against Milnerton this season and then somehow gone on to lose to the high flying B-league school. However there is no getting away from the end result. It is a shock and disappointment to a community that prides itself on rugby success. The die-hard supporters may find it even harder to accept this downturn. As a result the school, its coaches, and even the headmaster may face criticism on socia ..read more

April 2024 – Cape Town Southern Suburbs rugby is too good! Title defending Rondebosch meets SACS from Newlands to get it underway in 2024. Rondebosch keen to snap that two game losing streak and reaffirm that they have everything one looks for in a national Top 10 team. Coach Joel Carew really has some great prospects at his disposal including fit again Colin Paul Kemp. SACS are not quite there yet but competitiveness is better, their nose is pointing in the right direction and hopefully in the years ahead they will be able to challenge for top honours just like they did in 2015 and 2016 when ..read more

April 2024 After a forgettable start to 2024, Dale College are now on a three-match winning streak which includes a treasured 32-25 win against Grey High at the Graveyard. Spirits will be high in the Tickbirds camp ahead of a potentially difficult trip to Komani to face their great rivals Queen’s in one of SA schoolboy rugby’s biggest and best derbies. The Kudus have stuttered a bit in bigger games this season. They are yet to hit the best form. However they too must feel like they are about to turn a corner and start to pick up form ahead of the challenging fixture list month of May. This wee ..read more

Paul Roos vs HJS Paarl Boys’ High – test match time!

April 2024 Paarl Boys’ High versus Paul Roos Gymnasium is one of the biggest schoolboy rugby rivalries in SA. Surprisingly it does not register nearly as high as it should on the leaderboard of top annual local derbies. It has always been a big meaningful game. Then recently, pre-Covid, Boishaai developed the concept of an international schools rugby tournament, pioneered it and from under their noses lost the hosting rights to Paul Roos. This created tension and added some spice for a while. So it is not a bitter rivalry. It’s not a grudge match. It’s a healthy one with an extra dimension. As ..read more
