In Romagna, Italy, photographers Giovanni Gallio and Sara Capovilla have documented the extraordinary world of miniature motorcycling. Putting their spin on the less-common series of 'Mini Moto' racing, the photographic duo have captured some core values that underpin motorsport; commitment, competition, perseverance, victory, and failure.
Dreaming of following in the footsteps of Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso, the riders in this series are all under the age of 10. But don't let these toy-like machines fool you. These bikes can race at speeds up to 10 ..read more

Jamie Kripke likes to shoot many things, including less-than-perfect cars. So after hearing about the lighthearted racing series '24 hours of Lemons', the Colorado-based photographer set out to document an event at Willow Springs International Raceway, California.
A hilarious mix of club racing, MacGyver, Burning Man, and The Salvation Army, 24 hours of Lemons was established in 2006 by an intrepid group of individuals who wanted to race cars but didn't have vast budgets to do so. In their own words, "Racing shouldn't just be for rich idiots. Racing should be for all i ..read more

Guided by the mantra "The car is the dancer/The dancer is the car", Choreographer and dancer Camryn Eakes and videographer Exotica DHTRV have collaborated with Car Culture Magazine Garagisme to portray the monthly 'Night Of Destruction' at Irwindale Speedway.
For some, cars are an extension of one's home, a safe space, a symbol of status, a place to be alone or creating memories when taking a trip with a friend or family member. However, for Demolition Derby drivers, these moments of nostalgia are seldom remembered, as they alter and re-purpose these vehicles to intentionally destroy them, in ..read more

Blending humour, introspection, and nostalgia, New York-based creative studio Dark Igloo's film 'Duality Derby' uses the iconography of car culture and the thrill of a demolition derby to explore the opposing perspectives that exist within all of us - Gratitude and Resentful.
We each contain multitudes. At times we are positive, kind and thoughtful, and at others, we can be jealous, hateful and angry. Duality is as much a part of the human experience as curiosity, wonder, and the need to create. To embody this idea and anchor the film, Dark Igloo dreamed up Victor Elaine, a local racing legend ..read more

Canadian-Lebanese filmmaker Amber Fares's documentary "The Speed Sisters" is not your typical motorsport film. Instead, it takes us inside the journey of five "badass" young Palestinian women who established the Middle East's first all-female racing team in the heart of the gritty and male-dominated street-racing scene.
As the team's founding members, the Speed Sisters are united in competition with one another and against social stigma and political repression. We meet Maysoon, the team manager; Mona, who crashes her cars now and then; Noor, the queen of drifting; Betty, the glamourous racer ..read more

Mathew Scott says that the people he meets are often more important than the subject matter itself. So when attending an Amateur Drag Racing event, the San Fransico-based documentary photographer was pleased to meet the individuals that make up the tight-knit community of racers and fans.
The resulting project, High Plains Drifter, was captured in a single day. "Yes, it was just one day, but it was a long day", Mathew explains. "As a spectator, I attended with my dad. My neighbour [involved in Drag Racing] gave us some press passes, so I prepared some equipment, and I knew I w ..read more

Sam Wright has always been interested in discovering individuals' stories and representing people in their most natural form. In this case, the subject is British Speedway, where the self-initiated series brought back memories from his youth. "I lived in Sheffield as a kid, and Owlerton Stadium was about 3 miles away from our house,” Wright recalls. “But despite the distance, I could hear when the Speedway was on every other Wednesday."
Speedway is a sensory overload: remarkable acceleration, bravery, colours, noise smells. The bar is open, and music plays before each heat. Fans a ..read more

British photographer Spencer Murphy searches for creativity in intriguing and evocative situations. His book collaboration, with the Hoxton mini-press, titled Urban Dirt Bikers, attests to his artistry by documenting the essence of the unfamiliar and elusive underground 'Bike life' scene.

London-based photographer Matt Ben Stone is a life-long motorsport fan and was well aware of Bonneville's Speedweek before this unique project even came about.
But his first experience of attending the Bonneville was not necessarily what he had imagined it would be. Rather than being assigned to document the vast array of modified cars and drivers, Matt's task was to capture the story of female cyclist Denise Mueller-Korenek - who was at Speedweek in a bid to be the world's fastest cyclist. Denise ultimately surpassed her goal of 175mph, with a final average of ..read more
