The University of Hawai’i basketball team will be spending Thanksgiving weekend in Palm Springs, Calif. The Rainbow Warriors are one of four teams invited to participate in the inaugural Acrisure Invitational – a two-day, four-team tournament scheduled for November 24 and 25 at Greater Palm Springs, Calif. Hawai’i will face UT Rio Grande Valley in one of the opening day games. Arkansas State and San Diego will play in the other opening day game. The University of Hawai’i basketball team will host Saint Mary’s in a preseason exhibition game on October 20 that will serve as a means to assist the Maui wildfire recovery process. The charity exhibition will be played at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, and the game time and ticket prices will be announced later. On October 8, the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz will play an NBA preseason game at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in another basketball fundraiser for Maui. The University of Hawai’i basketball team will be in Japan for a goodwill tour from August 9-19. The trip will include four exhibition games, and stops in five different cities – Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya and Chiba. The four exhibition games are scheduled for August 11 (vs. Tokyo Samurai), August 14 (vs. FE Nagoya), August 16 (vs. Kyoto Hannaryz) and August 19 (vs. Tokai University). Akira Jacobs, a 6-foot-8 guard/forward from Yokohama, Japan, has signed a letter of intent to join the University of Hawai’i basketball team. He is the first player from Japan to play for the Rainbow Warriors.
