Mike Agassi wanted Andre to hit 1000000 tennis balls annually to train a future world #1. Andre Agassi spent 101 weeks ranked #1. Being able to control the ball and put it where your opponent does not want it has always been a good strategy for success in tennis. Today’s elite tennis training rightly focuses...

7 Jasmine Paolini vs. 31 Barbora Krejcikova
The BIG Question
How much does Wimbledon 2024 grass play like grass from 2002 and earlier?
If the grass is generally low bouncing, I think the match is largely on Barbora Krejcikova’s racquet despite having a worse seed than Jasmine Paolini. If the grass is amenable to grinding baseline points and gritty retrieving and counter-punching, the advantage swings to the 7th seed.
Why Paolini Should Win
Momentum is nothing to underestimate in this situation. Paolini has won 12 of her past 13 matches in majors after b ..read more

I talked tennis with a Louisville Legend on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. The whole show is worth a listen. Tennis and I are on with Jerry Eaves from 14:55-24:10. Give Jerry Eaves a follow on the platform formerly known as Twitter:
@JerryEaves5
Jerry Eaves grew up in Louisville and played basketball for the great Denny Crum. He helped the University of Louisville win its first NCAA men’s basketball championship in 1980. He also played in the NBA. He is now the athletic director at Simmons College of Kentucky while being a figure in sports media.

History Made by Both Champions
Flying on the clay.. Iga Swiatek on her way into the Roland Garros semis. pic.twitter.com/eIrHwWhJUL
— Jimmie48 Photography (@JJlovesTennis) June 4, 2024
Iga Swiatek won her 5th major title, capped off a great clay court season*, demonstrated why she is ranked #1, and won her 4th French Open title in 5 years by claiming the title in pretty routine fashion during the final 5 rounds of the tournament. Her 2nd round win over Naomi Osaka was an instant classic in which Swiatek had to save match points while turning back the former world #1 and 4-time major champio ..read more

We entered this season knowing we were among the better high school teams in Kentucky and that the defending champions were the strongest team in the state on paper. We and they love that sports are not played on paper. We lost two spirited dual matches to them in the regular season (including one singles match that ended with a 17-15 match tiebreak!). We each won our regions and in the random draw had a potential semifinal dual match looming.
We lined up today and neither team stacked although there is some flexibility within a non-stacking universe.* Both teams obviously studied the previous ..read more

The Newish Format
For the first time in several years, Kentucky has separated its high school singles and doubles state tournaments from the team championship. I’ve been fortunate enough to be an assistant coach at a school that has won its past 4 regional titles. In recent previous seasons, regional and state titles were awarded to the school that won the most singles and doubles matches in the regional or state singles and doubles tournaments with each school at most placing two doubles teams and two singles players into the main draws. This year, the singles and doubles events were held, bu ..read more
