Bingham Family Vineyards has recently expanded their number of tasting rooms by opening a new location in Roanoke, which is north of Fort Worth, in January 2024. In a recent trip to North Texas, I stopped by the new location. I had never visited Roanoke before, but from what I saw, the Binghams have picked a nice location. The tasting room in Downtown Roanoke on Oak Street also houses restaurants, a brewery, lodging, and more. The street reminded me of Main Street in Grapevine where most of the wineries are located including another Bingham tasting room. Upon entering the tasting room, you a ..read more

Leading up to the Lubbock Uncorked wine festival, the weather was in Fake Spring #4 or Faux Summer #2 mode with beautiful clear skies, temperatures between 58-84 degrees, and the added bonus of no wind or blowing dirt. With the weather forecast for Saturday with anticipated 50+ mph wind gusts, the Chamber announced on the day before that the event would be 100% indoors. Kudos to the Chamber of Commerce team for making the quick switch and modification to the event! As far as I could tell, the ev ..read more

Red Road Vineyard & Winery is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery located in East Texas. As we made our way to Naples, Texas for the first time, we couldn’t help but appreciate the beauty of the rolling hills, winding roads, numerous lakes, and heavily wooded countryside. As we arrived at the winery, we discovered the building that housed the winery was originally a historic ice house located near the downtown square of Naples. Owner Merrill Grove met us in the tasting room where he shared his story as well as providing us with a tasting. It all begins and ends with his passio ..read more

Bordeaux is one of the most revered wine regions in the world. The five red wine grapes that are traditional in Bordeaux are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. While we most often see Petit Verdot blended with these other grapes, in recent years, we have found more single-varietal bottlings. This grape’s true origin is unproven, but it is believed to have been planted by the ancient Romans. One theory is that the natural cross-pollination of Duras and Tressot grapes created Petit Verdot. It is also believed this grape is much older than the world’s most popu ..read more
