These plants with small, white, four-petalled flowers are popping up all over the place in pavement cracks and walls, on road verges and in flower beds. Now in flower on the magnificent limestone pavement of the Burren in Ireland, Dense-flowered Orchids are a puzzle in terms of British and Irish botany – they're only found here in Ireland, but the bulk of their population are in the Mediterranean. In common with a number of other plant species, they form part of the so-called Lusitanian flora – plants normally found in the Iberian peninsula and, oddly, in south-west Ireland too.
