Those Who Do Not Remember the Past are Condemned to Repeat It

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana In 1854 (The same year St. Mary of Pine Bluff was established), Democrats proposed the expansion of slavery. Becoming fed up with this devaluing of humanity, ex-Democrat Party and ex-Whig Party members joined forces to form the Republican Party (actually, first named as such 90 miles from me in a schoolhouse in Ripon, WI). They raised up their first Presidential candidate in one Abraham Lincoln who went on to become our 16th President in 1861. Just over one month later, the Confederate army began the  ..read more

Is the Priest a Father or Business Manager? By Fr. Bill Peckman

Is the Priest a Father or Business Manager? By Fr. Bill Peckman I am still thinking and praying about the who family dynamic vision versus the transactional vision of how parishes and dioceses live their mission. My premise is that so many times we have adopted the transactional/retail/mercantile/secular vision in how we live out our parish mission. I believe one of the particularly devastating effects this vision has had is in priestly vocations. Let me explain. Most people in our churches see the role of the priest and the role of a husband/dad as disconnected. They are seen as either/or pro ..read more

AVAILABLE CONFESSION TIMES 24/7 Confessional I have turned the entryway of my rectory into a Confessional. Come to my front door and ring the intercom button. I will call you in. When you enter, you will see a kneeler against my office door (I put a confessional screen in my office door to ensure anonymity). Simply kneel there, and you are going to Confession. A guide to Confession, along with the “Act of Contrition” will be hanging on the door in front of you. Either FB message me or call ahead, if you want to ensure I am here (608-798-4644). Transactional Catholicism by Fr. Bill Peckman I know this is really long… but trust me and please read it…especially my parishioners. I am going on Fr. Heilman’s Grace Force Podcast tomorrow and we are talking about a topic that has really pushed itself to the forefront of my spirituality and how I view being a pastor. This will also be the core of my Easter homily. Question: What did Jesus bring into a being with the His Passion, Death, and Resurrection? Question: Did what He founded and what the Church is (especially in the west) look like that anymore? Question: If it doesn’t, how do we get ..read more

Pastor’s Pen:  An Urgent Wake-Up Call

By Fr. Bill Peckman: Pastor’s Pen:  An Urgent Wake-Up Call One of the founders of Western Philosophy, Aristotle, who lived 300-400 years before the birth of Jesus, said, “Tolerance and apathy are the virtues of a dying society.”  It is a strong sign of a society that has lost its moral code.  It has lost its moral code through indulgence of the senses (particularly sexual), its wealth, and its focus on leisure.  The people have largely grown soft, dependent, and thus ripe for plunder.  Human history is replete with examples: whether it was the Roman Republic becoming t ..read more

Getting My Family Protected, Blessed and Into Heaven

Getting My Family Protected, Blessed and Into Heaven This is my private chapel. Up to now, I have offered prayers, here and there, for my family. Nothing really intensive, though. That has all changed. If you are like me, you are extremely concerned as we are seeing a diabolical infiltration entering our world at historic proportions. Virtually all of the influencers of our time have shifted into high gear and are arrogantly claiming a “new normal” that all but spits in the face of God. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who ..read more

St. John Neumann and Gramma’s Prayers
Roman Catholic Man
by Fr Richard Heilman

Today is the feast day of St. John Neumann. I have a special relationship with this holy saint. Let me tell you why. I have been a priest for 33 years. I feel truly blessed to be a priest. I can honestly say that I have never had a moment of regret in all those years. Sure, I look at so many beautiful families I know, and I begin to wonder what it might be like to have a family. I don’t wonder in sorrow … I just wonder. Both of my parents have passed to eternal life, and I rely heavily on their prayers. I pray often for them too (see how HERE), along with all of my relatives and friends who ha ..read more

Elitist Narcissism – The Great Evil of Our Times

Elitist Narcissism – The Great Evil of Our Times Why do I appear so political? Because I am. It’s called “working within the system.” And, the system that drives the “condition of our country” is, for the most part, politics. Once politics stays out of my faith, I’ll stay out of politics. You want to legalize the murdering of children? Then, “It’s On!” Now, don’t get me wrong–of course, it is the power of God and our deep faith that is the only real power to defeat evil. And, I do all I can to stay as well-connected to God as I can, and I do all I can to help others to do the same. YES, we mus ..read more

Stay Hopeful. Seek His Face (Adoration). He is Merciful. He is Coming! Last night, with just an hour or two to go, I put out a prayer request on social media that went like this … Please, let’s pray a Hail Mary, Our Father & Glory Be together at 9:21 PM (CST or Your time).   This will be the 21st minute of the 21st hour on the final 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century.   Let’s ask God for a Holy Spirit Revival in our world! I’ve contended that we have experienced several great social vicissitudes (a change of circumstances, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasan ..read more

Randy Mack – “What should I do?!”
Roman Catholic Man

Randy Mack – “What should I do?!” My good friend, Randy Mack, passed away two days ago after collapsing while cleaning his yard from the high winds we have had here. Randy was on our leadership team for “Men of Christ” Madison. He was involved in just about everything in his parish. He reminded me of my parents, who practically lived at the parish. Randy (along with my parents) are the special Christians among us who, from a Holy Spirit fire within, constantly ask, “What should I do?! What should I do?!” – LUKE 3:10-18. Souls like Randy’s are also those who look on with deep sorrow at friends ..read more
