Just as an aside, sometimes when I type “sconces” I accidentally type “scones” and then I’m hungry for an hour. Last post, I chatted about how we made the narrow antique sconces work for the wall with modern electrical. So now, let’s get them up! Here’s what the wallpaper “cover” (for lack of a better ..read more

A while back, I posted about this amazing chair that had been gifted to us, and how it was WAY TOO SCARY for me to upholster on my own, so we hired out. I don’t know if every old-house person is this way, but we have so many chairs. SO MANY. It’s rather obscene, actually ..read more

A while back, I posted about Doug finding some amazing things in the wall. If you missed that post, you can check it out here.
Here’s the book coming out of the wall a the baseboard level :
The thing we found that I loved the most, is this piece of practice music. The book was blank staff paper, and this page was filled with key signatures being practiced.
If you don’t remember, I’m a high school band director and conductor. So the idea that anything to do with music, makes me know that this room is absolutely supposed to be my space.
There is also a lot of practicing of handwriting going he ..read more

At the end of the summer, I posted a “here is where the room is now” post, and showed you a glimpse of the bed and promised I would give more details. Spoiler alert – the bed isn’t done yet, but here are some pictures of the process to date!
Here is the sketch I made of this side of the room. The idea is to have a twin bed / daybed that can function three ways – as a place to read and relax, extra space for a guest, and storage for Doug’s many trombones (which is weird to the general public, but it is what it is!).
We knew we would have to design and build this ourselves, because someth ..read more
