Incorrect swimming distance using Polar Verity Sense

Hi! I just got the Polar Verity Sense from my coach and started to use it to monitor my swimming sessions. I noticed that the distance is incorrect. Sometimes it is off by 50m, sometimes 500m+. It is more likely to show longer distances than what I actually swam, but sometimes the distance is smaller. I use the swimming mode on the sensor and then let it sync with my phone afterwards. The lens touches the bare skin of my temple. The pool length information is correct. I start recording training session when I am near the pool, and finish the training session when I get out of it, so that the ..read more

The Wrong Swimsuit

I was in a bit of a hurry when I packed my swim bag this morning. When I got to the pool after work, I realized I'd grabbed a swim thong instead of my usual briefs. Except for the back style, they look almost the same. I've been wearing thongs for recreational swimming since last summer, but never to exercise. It seemed a shame to skip the workout, so I went back to the front desk and explained my mistake. The young woman there, who I've spoken to many times, said not to worry. That it was okay to wear the thong. I changed into the thong and went for a swim. It was a relatively quiet even ..read more

Aquam mats and how much can I inflate them…

I’ve been doing aquamat for a few weeks now and as a heavier person (about 220lbs), the mats keep folding beneath my feet when I try to jump… the pump they have is a high volume low pressure so I feel it can’t get the mats to a PSI that is high enough. I was wondering if anyone here knows to how many PSI i can safely inflate the mat. As a paddle boarder I guess it HAS to be at least 15.. I told the other ladies that I’d bring my triple action pump next week to try it out. TIA for your answers and advices :) submitted by /u/Cultural-Variation74 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pool size long enough for training?

Looking to build a 60ft long x 10ftwide home pool. I’m a long distance runner that uses swimming as cross training and looking to start on triathlons soon. No swimming pools available in my area at all, it’s been a nightmare to keep swimming as an option. Family loves the idea and the weather here is 70F 360 days a year. Will build a home pool regardless. Is this size enough or should I push for a longer (80-82ft) but much more expensive choice? submitted by /u/missconnoisseur_293 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Looking for feedback on my ideas for building a home pool for training / recreation

Sorry for the terrible resolution, I did my best. My husband and I just finished building our home six months ago, and we still have a rather large yard area that is not used yet. Our next project is building a recreational space for outdoor fun, bbq, relaxing etc. The total space available for this is 20m wide x 36m long We both want a pool: he loves relaxing in them and it helps with his back pain(after some surgeries), I’m a long time runner and love swimming as a cross training activity and would love to go for my first triathlon, but sadly there’s no access to quality pools near me ..read more

Training progression to learn butterfly?

Butterfly is the only stroke I don’t fully get yet, but I’m having a hard time getting started. I understand it conceptually. I’m aware of the two-beat flutter kick and have tried a few drills like single-arm butterfly with fins on, but I’m having a hard time transitioning into getting a steady flow with the actual stroke. Basically, if I attempt a 25, my body positioning and timing are pretty off that I get winded about 15 yards in. Any advice on a progression of drills that will get me to doing a 25 steadily? submitted by /u/jnzq [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It's so difficult to breathe while swimming

So, I recently started learning swimming and it's been almost 20 days now. I learnt floating pretty easily and now my hands and legs also move properly while swimming. But, it's so difficult for me to breathe while swimming. This whole thing of taking your head out when you are short of breath, makes me panicky and I can't swim then. Any tips for this? submitted by /u/letitbeanonymous [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
