I see many companies create start menus, taskbars and others, I know it's hard and complicated to create these softwares. But why hasn't anyone created a replacement for the whole explorer.exe UI itself? What I refer as explorer UI? Go to your task manager and close all explorer.exe processes, now you see a blank screen.
So explorer.exe handles everything, from the start menu to the file explorer. If so, why not create a replacement and give what users want?
With a replacement, the user could choose for example the windows XP UI without breaking part of the UI, or choose the windows 7, 8, 8.1 ..read more

I am running the current Dev Windows 11 build (version 24H2 OS Build 26100.1). Ever since I upgraded from 23H2 to 24H2 I've been unable to get WSL to work. When I run "wsl.exe" I get the following message:
Windows Subsystem for Linux must be updated to the latest version to proceed. You can update by running 'wsl.exe --update'.
For more information please visit https://aka.ms/wslinstall
Press any key to install Windows Subsystem for Linux.
Press CTRL-C or close this window to cancel.
This prompt will time out in 60 seconds.
When I run "wsl.exe --install" or "wsl.exe --update", I get this:

After I upgrade, say if I need to install my windows on a new hard drive, do I need both activation keys for the pro version?
Windows 11 Home Windows 11 Pro Upgrade
Or does Microsoft generate a standalone new key for me for activating Windows 11 Pro, in the process making my old win 11 home key invalid?
I'm trying to decide whether I need the full version if my laptop comes with the home edition. Any help is appreciated.

Is there any possible way to access the desktop and execute programs on a 2009 ford with the Sync gen 1? I know the system runs on windows CE and I’ve seen videos of other people that have gotten to their cars desktop (it was a vw though)

I believe I had windows 10 for the last 8 years and I really enjoyed it. I also had Win7 & WinXP in the past... I was skeptical about upgrading, watched some videos of 'experts' explaining the differences... and delayed that call for a long time.
Why did I upgrade? I had a long rest in a holiday, and decided to give it a try. I even entered my BIOS settings to initiate the hardware TPM. It still buffles me why a regular PC should have it.. I believe it should be kept for the industry or security organisations...
Anyway...
So, why did I like Winsows 11?

I've had a macbook for the past 7 years and want to switch back to a PC. My one hangup is I can't find an equivalent PC feature to the Mac ability to "fullscreen" a window then use the 4-finger swipe to toggle between that window and the main desktop (or other fullscreen windows). My most common laptop use is without a mouse and toggling back and forth between two windows (excel and web browser). I know there are keyboard shortcuts and touchpad gestures on pc to toggle between ALL open windows, but as far as I can tell they all require a complex sequence of several keys or gestures and there ..read more

Got a windows laptop for work, if i'm away from the laptop for a while it will go to the lock screen and I have to type the password in again. How do I stop it from doing this completely? I've already changed all the screen timeout settings to never but it still locks.

I use SolidWorks which prefers files to be stored locally.
It uses linked files (not necessarily the correct term) within the application i.e. when you open a top level assembly of multiple components, it will open those individual components in the background using the file paths saved within the assembly. If you move those files, it will prompt you to re-link.
I want to create a symlink or similar setup for two things:
so I can have a versioned 'live' backup of the files in OneDrive in case something goes wrong and I need to restore a previous version OR my HDD fails.
I can share the fi ..read more
