As title, so when theres low light windows hello doesnt work very well it will use fingerprint auth for logon instead, because now I must choose fingerprint OR face logon. Would be nice to have it as a fallback option. submitted by /u/Lopsided-Ad434 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is it possible to configure alt+tab and alt+backtick to alternate between apps and app windows like we do with MacOS?

In mac, when I press alt+tab instead of giving me a window switcher with all the open windows it gives me just an application switcher. So if I have 3 chrome windows and 2 terminal windows, it will just alternate between the latest focused terminal window and the latest focused chrome window. Then if I want to switch to other windows I press alt+backtick (`) to alternate between instances of the focused window (so if I'm on chrome, it'll alternate between open chrome windows) is it possible to replicate this behavior in windows 11 somehow? submitted by /u/brubsabrubs [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Safe to update old laptop?

I’m probably being overly paranoid but I have an old laptop with Windows 10 that I haven’t turned on in a couple years. If I connect it to my wifi to get updates, is there any risk that it could be hacked while the updates are being applied? submitted by /u/AnxietyIsWhatIDo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I reload/reinstall a system with Windows 10/11 preloaded on it? It has been several years since I have done any windows installs. I went to linux desktops for my daily driver back when it was Windows 7. If i happen to need a windows OS for something usually bios firmware updates I just put in an old SSD and load Windows 10/11 that I downloaded from the Microsoft site. I never register it or anything, wipe it and move on Back in the day, I used to use DBAN, Magical Jelly Bean, and a program called Driver Backup! 2 to get everything I needed to wipe and reload windows. How are things don ..read more

How does Windows handle updates when a computer sleeps?

Scenario: Let's say my computer is scheduled to wake from sleep and perform updates at a specific time once a week. The computer also has its sleep timer set to 15 minutes. If Windows update wakes the computer up from sleep to start downloading updates, is the computer just going to go back to sleep after 15 minutes? If so, doesn't that mean if the updates aren't fully downloaded or installed, they stop and the computer won't update? Or will the Windows Update downloads/installations keep the computer awake until they are finished? submitted by /u/Mechateka [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Search bar on start menu sucks
Reddit » Windows

Why is the search bar so dumb? I remember in windows 10 I would type 'fire' then press enter and firefox would be launched with no problem. Now on windows 11 I have to type the entire thing, and even then the search bar thinks I want to search that... The search on the start menu thinks I want to search about something when there is an app by the exact thing I typed... In case there is a setting that turns of web results in the search bar please let me know, this is borderline unacceptable submitted by /u/SalaryClean4705 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
