Hello, I am a cs grad and after internships in ux, I realised I want to work more in the creative field. I know it is quite broad (game art, vfx, graphic design, ui design, product design, advertisement/marketing, motion graphics), but I want to enrol in a arts/design program to learn the foundation. I'm based in Canada. What are some good programs? Also, is it better to do a more specific or a more general art degree/certification/diploma? How is it breaking into the design industry as a non-art background person with just a certification? I'd love any advise on how to get started and any ge ..read more

Hello, I have some venting to do. I recently landed a design job but I feel under qualified. I don't know how to change our product background to solid white flawlessly. Everytime I do it. It gets jagged and messed up or the color of the product changes. Next, I need to make a logo design and I have no idea where to start I'm getting very frustrated. I feel under qualified. What should I do? submitted by /u/Mellowandmagic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey folks, I want your opinion in something... I used to work home office most of the time, I have now a G7 17 7700, i7-10750h, Rtx 2070, 32gb ram, FHD display (the display is not quite good), recently my boss told me I would start working in the office, so I am looking for a more portable laptop, my 17" is just too big and heavy, I am between buying a XPS 15 9520, I7-12700h, RTX 3050 Ti, 16gb ram, FHD(I will change the screen to the 4k option later but probably the touchscreen won't work) or a Asus Rog G14, R9-5900HS, RTX 3060, 32gb ram and a QHD display, I work most of the time with Photosh ..read more

What's the best large format (11x17 inches) flatbed scanner for scanning color artwork? I'd be using it with a fairly new computer running Windows 11. submitted by /u/Darkseid333 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I currently work as a "Communications Creative Assistant" for a municipal government communications office. The pay and benefits are great, my team is supportive, and my supervisor gives me a lot of creative freedom. Some background -- I do layouts for ads, flyers, annual reports, develop logos/branding for city events, projects and initiatives, create social media graphics, etc. I am also the point person for training staff and reviewing documents for ADA compliance for our website. The city has no official "graphic designer" -which I think is wild considering the amount of outreach and prog ..read more

So I am doing my internship right now next to my GD professor at my vocational school. I was contacted by this agency (they get our CVs and portfolios through the school) about a position opening after the girl working there, who was not a graphic designer, is on maternity leave for a year. We did an interview (I hadn't seen the job description at this point which they sent to me afterwards) and they explained to me that there is very little designing on this position and for the most part my job is approving the designs and making corrections/giving feedback and communicating with the li ..read more

I have been looking around trying to find tutorials on how to do this kind of work, but i cant find it anywhere. i also dont know what kind of model this company uses for their work. Company named Kickcharge does really great work, and want to make my own truck to put on my flyer designs and website but they also cost a fortune ($15k-$45). I want to get someone to just make the truck up for me, or ill just do it myself, but i can't figure out what this is considered. I already have a truck wrap, and .ai files for it, i just want it put onto a 3d modeled truck it seems. submitted by /u/Lumbar ..read more

I just wanted to hop on here and get some advice/critic on my portfolio. I just bought the site for it and have started showcasing some of the projects i’ve been apart of. I’m informally educated, learned through youtube and because i wanted to make my own clothing brand so i haven’t worked anything super corporat, mainly just other small to mid size brands. submitted by /u/SONNATIC [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have a background in both design and science/nutrition and I’m been thinking about creating a little niche for myself in patient education, infographics relating to health for both the public and healthcare professionals, improving patient - provider comms … curious if anyone does this type of work? Im not referring to medical illustration work (that’s way out of my league lol) If so, could you share any helpful insights like what some of your projects entailed, how did you find clients in this space? Are there many legalities to consider? Any resources you’d recommend (instructional or ass ..read more
