5/30/2023 Yup, you read the right. Our Airstream is for sale! After 3379 days, 543 overnight locations, and 45 states, we are ready to say goodbye. Honestly, this has been a hard decision to make. For many years I swore that we would never sell her. I had this grand idea that after we were done traveling, we would settle down in a house with a large yard where we could park the Airstream and turn it into a guest house or art studio. But the truth is that even though we’ve been here in Bend, OR for over a year and a half (and still loving it ), the words “settle” and “done traveling” are not c ..read more

September 13-23 This is the third and final post about our trip to Portugal in September 2022. Read about the first part of the journey: Portugal Part 1: Lisbon & Sintra Portugal Part 2: Obidos, Nazaré, and Coimbra Porto Looking out over the Duro River with Porto on the left and Vila Nova de Gaia on the right We arrived in Porto in the early evening after a roughly two-hour drive from Nazaré. With only two nights in this large and vibrant city, we chose to stay in the heart of the historic district. The downside to this location was no parking on site so we had to find a place to put the r ..read more

September 13-23 In September 2022 we took a trip to Portugal for 10 days. Read about the first part of our journey in this post: Portugal Part One – Lisbon & Sintra. Obidos A view of Obidos at dusk while standing on the city walls We arrived at the walled city of Obidos late in the day. There are no non-residential cars allowed inside the city walls so per the directions from our B&B, we parked in the free lot just outside of the walls and walked in. One of the unassuming entrances through the walls into town We would only be staying in Obidos for one night. While there are more conven ..read more

September 13-23 Hey! Remember us? We’re still enjoying ourselves in Bend, OR, and have not taken any Airstream trips since arriving here, but we did go to Portugal in September of 2022. This seemed like a good place to organize all the photos from the trip, so here they are along with a bit of narration. The number of photos got a little out of control for one post, so I split it into three. The quick backstory of this trip is that the company Tim works for decided to have a get-together for all their employees. Since the company is based in Europe and the employees live all over the world, t ..read more

Wrapping it Up

December 31, 2021 I intended to write this post by the end of September, then the end of October, and then the end of November. Well… here we are now at the very end of the year and I am finally sitting down to record the last of our summer travels and a bit about what (or rather what is not) next for us. We left off with a fabulous week-long adventure exploring Mt. Rainier. Smoke from nearby wildfires started rolling in the last day of our stay and with no desire to stick around to see if it got worse, we made a beeline back toward the coast. Our first stop was Millersylvania State Park jus ..read more

July 25-31 I was recently asked by a weekend-type RVer about our favorite places to visit. As any full-time RVer is well aware, this is both the most common question we get asked and also the most difficult to answer. I mean, how can we possibly choose favorites when there are so many amazing places? I started rattling off my usual list of favorites – southern Utah, the Oregon Coast, New Mexico, Crested Butte, Colorado, Acadia National Park – you know, all those places that everyone else loves as well. As the conversation continued, I added the Cascade Mountain Range and Tim threw in the Nor ..read more

July 11-24 Over the years, we’ve explored a lot of Washington state – the Olympic Penninsula, the Northern Cascades, east of the Cascades, both north and south – but somehow the area around Mount Rainier has always alluded us. I blame this oversight mostly on the fact that there is a large circle around the mountain where decent cell service does not exist. Not unusual for this kind of densely forested, mountainous area, but also not in line with our requirements for making this lifestyle a reality. This year we were determined to visit Mount Rainier and the surrounding area even if it meant ..read more

June 19 – July 10 We finished up our time on the Oregon Coast with a long stay at Fort Stevens State Park on the far northern tip of the state, followed by a return to Cape Lookout State Park a few hours to the south. Cape Lookout was a last-minute addition. When a site came up for 11 days in the full hook-ups section that included the busy 4th of July weekend, we couldn’t pass it up. Biking at Ft. Stevens The time we spent at Fort Stevens State Park was a mixed bag. On one hand, the beach there is awesome, as are the miles of paved bike trails, and the nearby town of Astoria. On the other ha ..read more

May 30 – June 18 After a week in Florence at the Port of Siuslaw, we continued to make our way north up the coast. Week-long stops at South Beach, Cape Lookout, and Nehalem Bay State Parks brought more beach walking, more coastal hiking, and even some in-town fun involving beer and ice cream! We left Florence on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Normally, we prefer to stay in one place on holiday weekends, but when I made this reservation back in February, Memorial Day was far from my mind. At the time, we were hiding in the Arizona desert and not sure any travel was going to happen this summe ..read more

May 23-29 I first learned about the Port of Siuslaw RV Park (prononced sy-YOO-slaw) when searching along the Oregon coast for campsites using Campendium with the “Public Park” filter on. It’s my favorite way to search for new campgrounds. We usually already know about the popular state parks, but are always on the lookout for previously unknown public parks – especially those that offer water view sites. Waterfront! This city-run park may have been new to us, but is far from an unknown spot. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon in the pouring rain to find a half-empty campground. As the week prog ..read more
