Hi all. What are the things that Meraki can't do when compared to Fortinet SD-WAN, Prisma SASE, VeloCloud etc. Struggling to find any granular reasons that aren't generalised , like 'Firewall features not advanced'. What about them is lacking though? Thanks :) submitted by /u/Fit-Excitement-5061 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It's always DNS

It's always DNS... So why does it feel like no one knows how it works? I've recently been doing initial phone screens for network engineers, all with 5-10+ years of experience. I swear it seems like only 1 or 2 out of 10 can answer a basic "If I want to look up the domain www.reddit.com, and nothing is cached anywhere, what is the process that happens?" I'm not even looking for a super detailed answer, just the basic process (root servers -> TLD, etc). These are seemingly smart people who ace the other questions, but when it comes to DNS, either I get a confident simple "the DNS server has ..read more

NetMotion/Absolute Secure Access Server in Azure

Hi everyone. We have our NetMotion server/warehouse/publisher within Azure and it's been functioning just fine for the last 5 years. We're moving away from Forcepoint for proxy and configured URL filtering for Azure firewall. The current route table that our NetMotion server/subnet resides in currently has the default route pointing to internet. When I move this server/subnet to a route table where the default route points to our Azure firewall, clients can no longer connect to this server. Very strange considering this route table should only affect outbound, not inbound. I did however creat ..read more

Migrating from Zscaler to Umbrella

Anyone else had problems using Canon Uniflow for printers and moved from Zscaler to Umbrella? We have some severe problems as the TLS handshaking fails with Umbrella, the printers send a CLIENT HELLO and never receives a SERVER HELLO, it works however with Zscaler. We are using SIG tunnels from SDWAN viptela router. In Umbrella SSL proxy and Intelligent proxy disabled in policy and the logs shows allowed for the traffic, but the pcap capture shows the printers never receive any SERVER HELLO and fails the TLS handshake. Umbrella is such a bad product but the company is forcing due to costs to ..read more

Jumbo frames w/ fortigate and Dell EMC switch

I am facing issues in our datacenter network, the connection of some servers goes down for some random time, sometimes 30 seconds somtimes 1 minute. In the time that the connection is down I can ping the default gateway but not 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 And if one server connection goes down the other may still be up. I did see in our switch, the MTU is set to 9216. In our FortiGate the MTU is set to 1500. Could this be the issue why our network is going down sometimes? I am completely new to MTU and so are my colleagues. FortiGate 100F Dell EMC S4128F-ON submitted by /u/2Jesper2 [visit reddit] [co ..read more

Hi, this is really longshot idea, probably won't work, but I will ask anyway. What type of connector is used on Cisco CVR-X2-SFP10G modul on site which is connected to switch? It looks like miniPCIe, but it is not. Is this some kind of Cisco connector or some standard one? https://www.router-switch.com/cvr-x2-sfp10g.html submitted by /u/basi65 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Port-channel flapping because of MST vs PVSTP?

I've got a bit of a strange issue that I'm trying to understand. I have pcaps and I don't see what I would expect to see. I have an Arista switch (running MST) connected to a Cisco switch (running PVSTP) via 2 links bundled in a port-channel. This link was previously working fine, but lately has started flapping and I'm not sure what changed. I'm very hesitant to start playing around with STP modes on the Arista as this switch is one of hundreds that goes upstream to a core running different MST instances. (Yes, I know, L2 core - kill it with fire, but not the point of this post) The Arista s ..read more
