So many of you have been on this journey with me for over a decade. I started LoveBrownSugar back in 2009 with the hope of creating a space for women of color to feel seen, appreciated, and empowered. I’ve shared so many chapters of my life from working in magazines and PR to quitting my job for the first time in 2013 to pave my own path into entrepreneurship. Having my two beautiful children, Cadence and Colton. And even when I moved across the country to Los Angeles with the kids, I shared that journey with you all too. I’m really honored to have a community like this. You’ve supported me o ..read more

5 Tips For A COVID Safe Family Staycation

The one thing I’ve missed most during this pandemic, right after seeing friends and family regularly, is traveling. As someone who doesn’t really splurge on designer clothes but will always splurge on a luxury travel experience, being homebound for months has been really hard. This past January, to celebrate my birthday, my family and I took a staycation. At the time, we didn’t feel safe traveling by air with the kids, so we opted to stay local and celebrate in the Tri-State area since we’re in New Jersey. We visited the Four Seasons Philadelphia and it was the best decision we could’ve made f ..read more

This post was originally published in February 2019. So you guys know I am a huge supporter of black-owned businesses. Every year I create a list of black owned businesses to support. We have such strong buying power as a community. We have to support each other! Disclaimer: this is NOT an exhaustive list! There are SO many amazing black owned businesses to support out there. But on my little slice of the internet, I like to promote the ones I personally love. Here they are (in no particular order): Cee Cee’s Closet Head wraps are timeless. They’re versatile, stylish and the perfect “bad hai ..read more

This post was originally published in November 2017, and republished in 2020. So you guys know I am a huge supporter of black-owned businesses, especially during the holiday season. I started the Shop LoveBrownSugar holiday pop-up series with the intention of supporting these businesses over the past few years. And every year since the tragic events in Ferguson in 2014, I’ve created an annual Black Friday list with some of my favorite minority-owned businesses to support. For 2017, I’ve brought back a few of my steady favorites and I’ve also added a few new brands I’ve discovered over ..read more

Last year, LoveBrownSugar.com released a list of 25 Black Owned Online Stores to support on Black Friday. Considering sensitive events surrounding social justice last year, we wanted to make sure to emphasize the importance of supporting black entrepreneurs as even a small gesture of change with a large impact, especially during the holiday season. The reason I decided to bring Shop LoveBrownSugar back for another year is the same. It’s important for u ..read more

Just 2 weeks ago, my baby girl turned 6 years old! I can’t hardly believe I’ve been a mommy for 6 years. Time flies. This time last year, we were back in LA playing outdoors at the park, bike riding, or taking strolls along the beach. We spent SO much time outdoors and I know the kids really miss it now that we’re back East. Even though it’s cold, there are still ways for the kiddos to enjoy outdoor activities, when properly dressed. Cadence specifically requested playtime at the park for her birthday, so we donned our Koolaburra boots the other day for some fun outdoors. Honestly if it wasn ..read more

After a wonderful and blissful year and a half in Los Angeles, I am back on the East Coast just in time for the change of leaves, pumpkin patch frolicking and cozy fall sweater season. This post was created in partnership with Loacker. All opinions are my own. Whenever the seasons start changing from Summer to Fall, I find myself looking for closet staples that will still allow me to enjoy the freedom and warmth of summer, but will keep me warm when the nights start getting colder. I pulled three of my favorite fall weather staples to show you how I transition my wardrobe – a sleeveless jumpsuit, a leather jacket and suede open-toe slides. 1. Sleeveless Jumpsuit I love a sleeveless jumpsuit to transition into cooler weather. It still gives the lighthearted summer vibe with n ..read more

The last year and a half, for my family, has been about major transitions. We picked up and moved across the country to Los Angeles last April, and through that experience I learned that there are subtle ways you can help kids transition and feel more comfortable with a big change. Whether is moving states, embracing a new sibling or going back to school after a fun summer, there are fundamental things to keep in mind. I partnered with Walmart to share my tips and how I helped Cadence transition back to school with style and confidence. 1. Focus On Comfort  Kids transitioning into new sp ..read more

This post about ways to unwind was created in partnership with Loacker. All opinions below are my own. The other day I posted on IG about some of my favorite ways to unwind after a long day of conquering the world as a PowerMom. One myth out there about being a working mom is that it’s normal or even acceptable to work so hard and to put everyone before yourself, so that you have absolutely nothing left to give at the end of a long day. If you’re reading this, hear me loud and clear. You deserve “me” time. Don’t apologize for it, embrace it. I’m really proud to be partnering with Loacke ..read more
