Marvel Rivals reminds me of pre-identity crisis Overwatch in the best possible way, but it's far from ready

I wasn't sure about Marvel Rivals after its initial announcement and previews, but the closed beta is giving me hope that something acceptable could come out of this one despite some glaring issues that need to addressed. It's hard to deny Overwatch 2 has been struggling for a long time now, and depending on who you ask, the same could be said about Blizzard's once astonishingly attractive hero-shooter IP as a whole. The truth is that things started to spiral downwards after the first two years or so of Overwatch, after the powers that be deemed it wasn't enough to welcome players of all skil ..read more

HunterxHunter NenxImpact preview: Not the prettiest dish, but rich with sauce
VG247

HunterXHunter NenXImpact asks an interesting question: how important are looks for a fighting game's success? The game is a down-dirty brawl, hilariously fun and easy to pick up. But, at the same time, it's not exactly a looker. Getting hands on with the game at Evo 2024 I can safely say it's now one of my most anticipated games this year, but how well it will actually do remains a mystery to me. The game comes from the wild minds at Eighting, a beloved entity in the world of fighting games. The company has previously made legendary hits like Marvel vs Capcom 3, madcap romps like DNF Duel, an ..read more

No Rest for the Wicked's combat gets more brutal, the Crucible gets a revamp and stray animals arrive in latest update

Today is a big day for No Rest for the Wicked, the action RPG from Moon Studios. The stunning fantasy game has been in Steam Early Access for a little over three months, and while updates were initially fast and furious, things have slowed down a fair bit. That was intentional, as the developer shifted into a development stage where the focus has moved to working on bigger features, rather than addressing smaller (but important) issues as they arise following the launch. This latest update is the first to arrive after this change in focus. Read more ..read more

Monopoly Go passes Go 15 million times, collects $3 billion

Hasbro has announced through a recent earnings report that Monopoly Go - the immensely popular video game from Scopely - has brought in over 3 billion dollars in revenue since its release in April last year. That's over 15 million times past go, folks. An absurd amount of money. This continues a trend of wild milestones for the mobile game, which previously pass the 1 billion mark only seven months after its launch. What's interesting with that figure is that it indicates not only that Monopoly Go is maintaining its momentum post-launch, but actually ramping up the income it generates over ti ..read more

New Elden Ring boss just dropped in the real world

A new Elden Ring boss may have just dropped in the real world, after people much smarter than me have discovered that Komodo dragons — the largest (living) lizard out there, that we know of — have iron-coated teeth. This is metal as f**k, if you ask me. Komodo dragons are renowned Apex predators, and often sit high at the top of the food chain wherever you find them. It’s easy enough to believe given that these hostile albeit beautiful creatures can weigh over 300 pounds, have been known to attack humans (rarely), and will sometimes even eat each other. The discovery that these fellas have ir ..read more

Publishers of GTA 6, Call of Duty, and more to be impacted as video game voice actors strike over AI implementation

Video game voice actors represented by SAG-AFTRA - one of America's biggest actors' unions - are going on strike. After over a year of negotiations with some of the biggest western publishers including Activision Blizzard, EA, and Take Two, negotiations have reached a standstill over one of the more controversial points of debate: AI. AI has proven to be an industry-shaking technical development within the voice acting space. New AI software is able to train on pre-existing performances, and use this pool of voice acting work to output its own lines. For video game companies this provides an ..read more

It might not be Elden Ring Numbers, but Armored Core 6 sailing past a sales milestone proves the people still yearn for mecha action

FromSoftware has announced that Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, has surpassed 3 million units sold, a fantastic milestone for a franchise that previously firmly existed in the ocean of niche video game franchises. The game is just under one year old by the time of this announcement, which certainly isn't bad pace for a new entry in a legacy IP. As for how this compares with previous games in the franchise, these stats are somewhat hard to track. VGChartz is the only website with figures for the majority of the franchise, and its stats show prior entrees have never breached the one million s ..read more

Stalker 2's been delayed again but the new release date trailer shows that, despite everything, the devs are in good spirits
VG247

Stalker 2's release has had to be pushed back again, it's now pencilled in to arrive on November 20, with the previously planned September release date having been abandoned in order to give the game's developers "the chance to fix more 'unexpected anomalies' (or simply 'bugs', as you call them)". If you're out of the loop, GSC Game World's been enduring a uniquely tough development process as it's worked on this sequel to the original cult classic shooter, which came out all the way back in 2007. Initially based in Ukraine, the entire studio moved over to the Czech Republic due to the Russia ..read more

Zenless Zone Zero player takes immersion to another level, playing the game on a CRT
VG247

Zenless Zone Zero maintains its iron-grip on the gacha genre and gaming industry as a whole, but while most players are at home having fun on their PCs or mobile phones, one player has taken it to another level. As posted on Reddit, user MiamiUkrainian has managed to get the game running on an old school CRT. The post, a short video showing the boot-up screen as well a some in-game footage of Sixth Street and a combo trail, sees the game playing on an old Sony television. The reception to the video is pretty much what you'd expect, a combination of jokes and genuine awe at the lengths this on ..read more
