This is the second in a two-part series on holy renewal through listening, if you haven’t read the first part you can do that HERE.
After moving slowly through holy renewal listening to the rhythms of the first three days of the Holy Week narrative, we pick up Day 4:
The Rhythm of Teaching, Conspiracy and Betrayal
During what we deem as Holy Week, Jesus spent time visiting his closest friends, Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, but He also spent time teaching.
As per His custom He taught the people, most notably, He gave His Olivet discourse on the end times (Luke 21:5-36 ..read more

Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
Psalm 1:2 CSB
We've all seen it. You're scrolling through Instagram and you come across the perfect quiet time picture. Someone who has a candle glowing, a mug of coffee steaming, the perfect Bible highlights, detailed journal notes, all on a clean table with the morning sun shining through the window. It's lovely.
Then we think back to our last quiet time and suddenly, envy kicks in. Our quiet time didn't have a candle. Our mug of coffee had gone cold. Our highlighted lines weren't st ..read more

“And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’ But they made light of it and went their ..read more

“Talent” has been defined as “a special natural ability or aptitude” (dictionary.com). We have each been entrusted with a talent, or two. Some have several talents, some have one. Some talents are visible to many, and some are hidden only to be seen by God.
“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey,
who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one,
each according to his own ability;
and he went on his journey.”
(Matthew 25:14-15, NASB)
In the parable as told by Jesus, each ..read more

Spring has sprung! The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and that fresh spring air is begging us to fling open the windows and chase away the winter blues. But have you considered giving your spiritual life a good spring cleaning, too?
Just like our homes can accumulate dust and clutter over time, our faith can become stagnant. Maybe your daily devotional has become a chore, or Sunday service feels routine. Perhaps worries and anxieties have crowded out your sense of peace.
Just like a good spring cleaning can leave your home feeling bright and renewed, a s ..read more

We often think of emotions in terms of good and bad. Good, meaning ones we like or ones that feel good. Bad, meaning ones that do not feel pleasant. Sometimes we even designate our emotions as morally right or wrong. But what if we started thinking of them differently?
Paul in Ephesians says, “in your anger, do not sin.” This tells me that anger in and of itself is not evil. It’s what we do with anger that can make it good or evil.
26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no oppo ..read more

Over time, seeking holy renewal through rhythms of listening to the Holy Week narrative became a blessed ritual I eagerly anticipated.
Enjoying intensified times of prayer, reflection and occasional fasting allows me consecrated time for embracing holy renewal through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Holy Week then becomes a “setting apart” of cluttered, overburdened schedules to instead pursue deeper rhythms of spiritual renewal.
Using the events of Christ’s last week on earth prior to His death, we move through the hidden lessons of holy renew ..read more

My dear friend and pastor's wife has an outside cat that she feeds and waters. Recently they were out of town and a young man from our church went over to their home to take care of both the inside cat and the outside cat.
At our meeting this week, he was talking about the cats and his time taking care of them. He mentioned that the outside cat's water bowl kept getting muddy. Come to find out there is a raccoon that comes to the cat's water dish and washes his little hands, making the water muddy.
When a raccoon -an animal who has been digging in garbage, digging in the d ..read more

"The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand up in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin."
~Psalm 1:4-6
Over the past three weeks, we have been taking an in-depth look at Psalm 1. We have studied verses 1-3 and discovered just how well they apply to our everyday lives. In verse 1 we discovered that th ..read more

Beyond the colorful eggs and joyous festivities, Easter holds a profound message for Christians. It serves as a powerful reminder of love, sacrifice, and the promise of new beginnings.
For us, as children of God, Easter transcends a mere occasion filled with colorful eggs and joyous festivities. It serves as a powerful reminder, etched in the very fabric of our faith, of the unconditional love and profound sacrifice Jesus made for us.
The story of Easter unfolds like a powerful drama, capturing both the immense sacrifice and the ultimate triumph of Jesus C ..read more
