The Lightroom Queen Blog

Updates for Lightroom Classic 13.4 and the Lightroom Ecosystem (desktop 7.4/mobile 9.4) have been released today. This is an interim release, coming just a month after the previous major release. So, these are primarily for bug fixes and new lens support.   Should I update? If you’ve held off updating from Classic 13.2 due to sync issues or other bugs, then we don’t recommend upgrading to Classic 13.4 at this time, as many of these bugs still remain. We hope they will be fixed in the next update. If you’re on Classic 13.3 or 13.3.1, or Lightroom Desktop, you may want to update to the ..read more

Why does Lightroom’s Generative AI keep replacing objects instead of removing them?
The Lightroom Queen Blog
by Victoria Bampton

Have you tried out Lightroom’s new Generative Remove tool yet? It was introduced as an Early Access feature in last week’s Lightroom updates. There’s been loads of great feedback, but a lot of people are reporting that it’s replacing objects instead of removing them. So what’s the trick? Like any tool, you need to know how to use it properly to get the best results. There’s a few important details you need to know: Too tight a selection can cause the person or object to be replaced instead of removed, so leave enough of a border. The amount of additional space that an Object Aware selection ad ..read more

How do I set permissions on macOS for Lightroom Classic?
The Lightroom Queen Blog
by Paul McFarlane

Over the last few years, macOS has introduced tighter security to limit which apps can access specific files and folders. Issues can include problems importing and exporting photos, missing images, sync issues, and even crashes. As a result, it’s sometimes necessary to set some security permissions for Lightroom manually. These instructions can also be used for the cloud-based Lightroom Desktop app.   macOS File and Folders permissions File & Folder permissions have been needed since Catalina, here’s how to set them correctly: Open macOS System Preferences (found under the Apple menu ..read more

How do I troubleshoot Sync issues with Classic 13.3 and later?
The Lightroom Queen Blog
by Paul McFarlane

Cloud sync has undergone a huge upgrade behind the scenes in Lightroom Classic 13.3. On the surface, very little has changed, but the newer sync engine should (hopefully) be much more reliable. But what actually changed? And if there are issues, how do you troubleshoot now?   What changed? On its first sync after the 13.3 upgrade, Lightroom has to migrate and check the local sync data. This process can take anywhere from minutes to days, depending on how many photos are synced and your internet connection speed, so don’t do it when you’re on a deadline! Where possible, Adobe recommends al ..read more

How do I clear space that Lightroom Mobile is using on my phone/tablet?
The Lightroom Queen Blog

Does your phone or tablet ever complain it’s running out of space? Perhaps you need to import a large number of photos from a camera or memory card, or you need a large amount of space for another app. If you’ve already done all the obvious things, like deleting large apps you don’t use and offloading downloaded Netflix videos, you can check what else is taking up space using Storage Settings on iOS. On Android, the location of storage information varies, for example, Device Care on Samsung. But what if Lightroom’s using too much space? Firstly, never ever delete the app unless you’re certain ..read more

What are the limitations of syncing Lightroom Classic with the cloud?
The Lightroom Queen Blog
by Paul McFarlane

Have you considered moving from Lightroom Classic to the Lightroom Cloud Ecosystem to benefit from mobile editing and web sharing? Perhaps the Lightroom Ecosystem doesn’t have all of the features you need yet. Maybe you have too many photos to store in the cloud, or your internet connection is too slow to be entirely cloud-based. While not perfect, having the best of both worlds is possible. You can keep Lightroom Classic as your primary photo archive and sync selected photos to/from Lightroom’s cloud to access on your mobile devices. You just need to be aware of the limitations. Many of us find Dark Mode easier to read. But how do you set this on LightroomQueen.com – and on the Lightroom Queen Forums? It’s not difficult, let’s look at them one by one. (Behind the scenes, they use different software, so must be set separately.)   LightroomQueen.com main site This one is actually very easy. Notice in the bottom-right, there is a crescent shape: Just click on it to change to Dark Mode, and click again to switch it back to Light Mode.   LightroomQueen Forums It’s really easy here, too, but this time, it’s a simple link in the bottom-left corner.
