How to: Use Dynamo Graph in Dynamo Player
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso
1M ago
Dynamo graph (or Dynamo script) is a program you can use to automate tasks in Revit. If you can get the Dynamo graph from your colleagues or download it online, you don’t need to build it yourself. It is the same concept if you are familiar with using AutoLISP in AutoCAD. You can load and use the script without knowing how to develop the program. Dynamo Player In Revit, we can use Dynamo Player to run Dynamo graphs. You can access Dynamo Player from the Manage tab> Visual Programming Panel. Registering Folder Dynamo Player lists all graphs in a folder. You can register folders where you sav ..read more

Model-Based Progress Tracking in Autodesk Build
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

This November, ACC released several exciting new features. A feature that I want to highlight is the model-based progress tracking that is available on Autodesk Build. Autodesk Build has had 2D progress tracking for some time now. It is useful to monitor work progress for construction that doesn’t have a BIM model. However, when we utilize BIM in a project, using only 2D drawings seems disconnected. We want to use the information in BIM to track the progress. Importing the Assets I like how we can import the assets from a BIM model. It’s not limited to Revit; you can import assets from AutoCAD ..read more

Understanding Surface and Cut Patterns in Revit
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso
5M ago
Revit creates views automatically. You don’t need to create plans, elevation, and section views manually. Revit also generates the patterns automatically. There are two locations where the patterns can appear: on the surface of the elements (no. 1, 2, and 3 below) or when we cut the elements (no. 4). No. 1 and 2 are apparent. The patterns appear on the surface of the wall. Using this type of pattern, you can show the surface finish for a brick or a textured wall. No. 3 shows the top of the wall. The wall is lower than the section box, so it’s not cut. No. 4 is the same type of wall but higher ..read more

Revit 2024.1 Update is Released
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso
9M ago
Autodesk released Revit 2024.1 Update a few days ago. It is a major update and includes all previous Revit 2024 updates. Many companies don’t want to install a new version until a major update is available. The reason is the software usually has a stable performance after that update. If you are unfamiliar with Autodesk updates, now Autodesk also includes new enhancements in their software updates. You can read the enhancements in Revit 2024.1. here. And you can read the resolved issues in Revit 2024.1. here. You can install the update using Autodesk Access or download the update from your Au ..read more

What’s New in Revit 2024: Bending Detail
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

Another significant enhancement in Revit 2024 is the bending details. Bending detail is available when you create a bending detail and in a rebar schedule. It is a great addition for you who do rebar detailing. Bending Detail in Section Details When you select a rebar, you can see the Bending Detail button on the ribbon. This tool is also available on Annotate tab> Symbol panel. I prefer to access it from annotate tab and make the verb/noun selection. It is easier to align the bending detail with the rebar. After you activate the tool, don’t forget to check the ribbon. If you want to add a ..read more

What’s New in Revit 2024: The Dark Theme
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

The dark theme is a popular request on the Revit idea board. It’s good to see it in Revit, finally. Autodesk has been teasing us on social media, so it’s not surprising when Revit 2024 is released. Before Revit 2024, we only can change the view background color. But the ribbon, properties palette, and Project Browser still use bright colors. The elements look sharp and inconvenient to see. It looks different in Revit 2024 dark theme. It looks modern and very convenient for the eyes. Using the Dark Theme Mode You can change the UI theme in the Revit options. There’s a new tab: Colors. Open th ..read more

Autodesk Build: Using Assets for Progress Tracking
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

Autodesk released the Progress Tracking feature as a beta a while back. There are some changes before Autodesk ends the beta. One difference is that Autodesk decided the Progress Tracking should be under Assets. The logic is when the construction is finished; the item will be a construction asset. However, there are some features in the Progress Tracking beta missing when the items are considered assets: There is no Progress Tracking dashboard. In beta, we saw a dashboard where we could review the construction progress graphically. The asset markups don’t have the geometry properties. In beta ..read more

My Home on the ACC Unified Platform
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

Autodesk released some new features on the ACC Unified Platform. There are some excellent features. In this post, I cover the My Home page. BIM 360 has a publish log page informing the users that new files are available. End users who are migrating from BIM 360 were missing this feature. Autodesk Build also has a very informative home page. However, we don’t have a home page if we subscribe to Autodesk Docs or BIM Collaborate. Why Do We Need My Home? When collaborating on the Autodesk Construction Cloud, you will involve in a workflow regardless of what module you use. You may be involved in a ..read more

Revit Family: Using Parameters to Control Array and Elements’ Visibility
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso

One benefit of using the Revit family is the parametric capability. We can control the size, provide information, ensure standards, and much more. In this post, we will see how to use parameters in a Revit family for more advanced usage. We will use formulas and conditional statements to control array and element visibility. This post assumes you are familiar with creating families and parameters to control the dimensions. The case that we use is a ladder with a cage. This ladder has simple elements. If you want to develop it further, you can edit it to add more details. You can download the ..read more

Renumbering Elements Mark in Revit
CAD Notes
by Edwin Prakoso
1y ago
In a BIM model, providing the information is essential. Mark is a field that we often use for delivering information—for example, door number mark. Revit automatically increments the mark numbering. However, sometimes we need to change the number. Adding prefixes/suffixes, providing the level number, changing the numbering sequence, etc. It is a tedious task, and unfortunately, Revit doesn’t have a feature for automatic numbering. The good thing is there are add-ons that we can use to do it. Some add-ons are free, and others are paid add-ons. Let’s see a couple of free add-ons to do this task ..read more
