Popcorn Snowman This popcorn snowman craft is a fun and easy gift for your students. I don’t know about your family, but mine were forever losing their gloves, so I always was happy to get another set! This craft is very inexpensive if you purchase the gloves and popcorn at a dollar or discount store.  I’m not sure where I first saw the idea, but I thought it was so cute that I used it for piano student gifts one year. All you have to do is print the snowman face and cut it out. Each snowman uses one individual package of microwave popcorn and a pair of  one-size-fits-all gloves. Sho ..read more

Halloween Gift Tags Today I am posting some Halloween treat tags that I made to decorate treats for students and they are free for one week. These will be fun for group lessons or Halloween parties or just to give to students at the end of their lesson. If you’re having a Halloween recital, they will make cute recital treats, too. Print them on card stock, cut them out, and punch a hole in the black dot at the top. Thread some curly ribbon through the hole. Wrap up some colorful candy and tie them up with the curly ribbon, making sure the tag is facing up. Now you have a cute, easy-to-make and ..read more

Assignment Pages

Have you heard the story about the teacher who put a message in each student’s assignment page that said if they told the teacher they read the message they would receive $1.00? Obviously this was when a dollar was worth a lot more than it is now! Even so, not one student read the message. Back in the day I actually tried it myself and guess what? None of my students read it either! I must be a real optimist because this inspired me to make a different assignment sheet that was more interactive. I really believe it helped. When I would assign a scale or even a five finger pattern, I would poin ..read more

I Want To Be a Zombie on Halloween  is a light hearted, fun piece that students will enjoy performing. The lyrics are not scary and it is written for beginners who can read seven notes around middle C. This piece has forty measures and is in ABA form so there are only 2 sections to learn. It includes an easy optional duet accompaniment.  There is space on the last page so I added a  jack-o-lantern for students to color. Order this week to get a new issue discount. This offer expires Friday, August 4, 2023 at midnight. Click here to see preview and order. The easy duet acc ..read more

Rhythm Turnovers Rhythm Turnovers is a new music theory game to teach rhythm names for elementary age beginners. There are only 4 cards for each student so if you have five minutes you have time to play this game. It can be played in groups of two or more students. Play it several times, it’s that fast! It’s great for groups but it can also be played by the teacher/student. Students turn cards to match the name the teacher calls out and it is possible to play several rounds in a short time, giving more students an opportunity to “win.” Another plus for my friends who use UK rhythm vocabulary ..read more
